I went to the Ellis Island site and found 5 Ellens, but all came to this country in 1900 and 1901; my Ellen was here earlier than that as she is listed on the 1880 census along with her husband and child. I seem to have hit the provrbial brick wall. Any suggestions or information would be greatly appreciated! Deanna Blough< Well, Deanna, You have found your gr grandmother if you found her on the 1880 census! I guess you mean you want to find her in Co Cork?? I assume you have traced her back on every census here in the US beginning in 1930 or 1920, that you have collected all vital records for the family, cemetery records, church records, city directories (if in a city), land records (if in a country) for her and her husband and family. Usually the best records to give place of origin are tombstones, obituaries, and sometimes early church records soon after the person comes to this country. If you check the Ellis island site again, you will see that it does not cover the time period of Ellen's immigration, does it? However, the 1900 census gives year of immigration and naturalization. Was she married when she arrived? Usually the husband's naturalization covers her also, but check his naturalization record for more information. Maybe you have some more work to do before coming to the wall. Good luck, and feel free to ask us questions. Elizabeth KnowltonEW@Compuserve.com
