Hello list, I hope someone can help me with research on my ancestor George Osborne Smith of County Cork, he was born in ?Yaoish, Youghal, Cork on 29.1.1848. He was commissioned into the 84th York and Lancaster Regiment as an Ensign on l3 July 1867. He purchased his promotion to Lieutenant on 12 December 1868, still with the 84th Foot. In 1871 he transferred to the 89th Foot, which became the 2nd Battalion of the Royal Irish Fusiliers in 1881. regards Mark
