If you have an LDS Family History Centre near where you live, you could try searching the yearly indexes to civil registration of births in Ireland around the years of interest. If the Centre does not have the films in stock they'll order for you at very little cost. The indexes give first and surname, registration district, and volume and page number in which the full entry can be found. The births indexes which start in 1864, won't give you the father's first name, but perhaps Brett is not that common a name in Cork? A photocopy of the entry in the civil registers from Dublin GRO costs about $1.50 (US).
