    3. Jerry, They still are, though they are one and the same. Many times the townlands were spelled phonetically by civil servants because those living there were illiterate and could only pronounce them. If you go to www.seanruad.com and place "rath" under Townland and "Beginning of field" under Search Method and select "Cork" for the county you will find what you are looking for ....Rathduff. Duff is the same as Duv, duve, and dubh all translating to the color black. Bill Fahy
