Hallo there, I am struggling with the Townland system for Cork ( or all Ireland for that matter.) Can anyone advise if a map is available which shows the townland and its immediate neighbours? I have one group of relatives who lived in one townland and another (same name) lot lived in the same parish but how far away was it? Given that some of these were only a few acres in size there must have been quite a few to make up a village or a parish. Any one able to help please? The long list of Townlands for Co Cork, for example, is not very helpful when you have defined the parish and the Poor Law Union but you can't place adjoining sites in the same village. Terry
Terry, You may not realize that a general query like this cannot be answered because there is no overall townland map. If you have specific civil parishes several people may help. I can help with West Cork if I know the civil parishes you have an interest in. Go to my website for a map of civil parishes of West Cork. www.westcork.homestead.com Bill Fahy
The following will help with some East cork townlands and some just west of Cork Harbour. http://members.tripod.com/~brensisk/Townlands.html Slán tamall Brendan Sisk http://brensisk.tripod.com/
