Barbara in St. Louis, Missouri _______________________________________________ Thanks for writing, Barb. I'm afraid we have no idea, that's our brick-wall. The only information we have about their place of origin is the family story that they came from County Cork. We have been in touch with a descendant of Thomas HENNESSY and she also had the story that their origins were in the county so we feel it is very likely to be true. This is what we "know":- Patrick HENNESSY was a butcher in County CORK in the 1830s & 40s. He was Catholic and had two sons: 1. Thomas HENNESSY born around 1835-6 2. Patrick HENNESSY born in 1846 or thereabouts. They could be related to your gggggm but until we can identify their family we have no way of knowing. We'll keep looking. -- Best wishes Ray ********************************************************** >From Ray Hennessy Forenames website: www.whatsinaname.net Preferred Email address: ray@whatsinaname.net Hints for Scotland's People at http://bit.ly/WIAN-SCP **********************************************************

    1. [CO CORK] Thomas & Patrick HENNESSY, left County Cork for London sometime before 1860
    2. Ray Hennessy
    3. Hi List Thomas & Patrick HENNESSY, left County Cork for London sometime before 1860 ________________________________________________ I am new to this List and hope someone can help us find out about the our Irish ancestry. Two brothers, Thomas and Patrick HENNESSY, left County Cork sometime before 1860 and moved into Wild Court, near Drury Lane, London, England. Thomas was born around 1835-6 and Patrick probably in 1846, if the ages on their marriage certificates are accurate. In London, Thomas HENNESSY married Johanna BRESNAHAN [born 1840-1] in 1860 and Patrick HENNESSY married Julia SHEA [born 1849] in 1871. Both marriage certificates give the man's father's name as Patrick HENNESSY, a butcher. The women were both Irish; Julia SHEA is believed to be from County Kerry. Their marriage certificates show they were all Catholic at the time. Patrick and Julia had a son - my grandfather, Thomas Patrick HENNESSY - in 1877. One of my cousins [Sheila] has tried to find a family in Co Cork that matches the two sons and the original butcher but without success due to the then unavailability of centralised parish records for Co Cork. We wonder if anyone on the List has any access to the various parish records in Co Cork. Unfortunately we have no idea which parish they were from. The main HENNESSY line in that area at that time seems to have been based in Ballymacmoy but we have no known connection with them or any other branch of the family. Any help with researching this line - useful websites, printed records, research facilities, etc - would be very much appreciated. -- Best wishes Ray HENNESSY ********************************************************** >From Ray Hennessy Forenames website: www.whatsinaname.net Preferred Email address: ray@whatsinaname.net Hints for Scotland's People at http://bit.ly/WIAN-SCP **********************************************************

    3. I really don't know right now. My grandfather always told me a story that she came from Cork but all the records I have found such as the 1911 British census states she was born in Hampshire. So I am completely clueless right now. 3. Hi Mary, It should actually read Great Grandmother I should have added some extra information. She went to England sometime between her birth and 1906 where she married my Great grandfather Alfred William Smith. I located her in the English Census 1911 in the Military section, but have not been able to find her birth record anywhere. The census shows she was born in Hampshire but all the family stories she was born in Ireland. Thank you anyway.
