I am looking for information on my g'gmothers family. She was Eliza Cullinane who was born about 1868 in "Passage" County Cork. Her father was James Cullinane and mother Carherine Fitzgerald. Eliza came to Australia. Thanks Lynn.

Hi List Thanks for all the messages on- and off-list. It looks like Minnie as a pet name for Mary is really well established. Most of the HUNDREDS of Marys (well, that's how it feels when you get back another level and there's yet another Mary!) in my ancestery were called Minnie. Or at least, all my Minnies have turned out to be Marys on paper. In Ireland especially, with mother & daughter (& in one case) & grandmother all living in the same house and all called Mary, they had to have pet names to distinguish between all the Marys. Hi: There are two Ballymoney parishes in Ireland: one is in Antrim, the other is in Cork. If you want to explore the Cork parish, a good site with which to start is Ginni Swanton's site: http://www.ginnisw.com/corkmain.html She has both Protestant and Catholic records. Ballymoney parish was mostly protestant. The nearest RC parish is Enniskeane. Here's another map of the area from the site: http://www.ginnisw.com/Ballineen.htm My ancestors were from Ballymoney parish and they emigrated to Hastings County, Ontario, Canada around 1850. Hi listers, I have come across a copy of a ship's log for some of my CHURCH ancestors. For one entry it looks like Ballynamoney and the other entry it looks like Ballinamoney. Seaching on the net I also find Ballymoney. Are they the same place? And is this a parish or a town? Cheers Robyn (in Sydney)
