Hi Beverley, It really depends on what happens to be entered in the burial register - and that will vary for different churches and different time periods. Often you'll just get name and date. In my experience, more recent burials will often have age, and sometimes other things, like a description (wife of xxxx, infant child of xxxx) and/or residence. I haven't often seen much more than that, although you can strike it lucky and get a lot of information from an entry. I'd suggest you direct your question to the particular church concerned - or ask the List as someone may know about (even have access to) the particular church register you're interested in. Good afternoon Allan Thankyou for your answer ,the Church involved is the Parish Church Fermoy , we have a picture of the grave there but can't quite read the date of death for Caroline Elizabeth Brick the daughter sometime in 1862 we think . So it might be worth the £20 to get a copy of the register this I'm told would be a hand written copy not an actual one of the register. Something I need to think about a bit more. Regards Beverley
Good morning Could someone kindly tell me what details one would get from a copy of a death in the Church registers, I need two death entries both before death certificates were issued in Ireland. I'm stumbling around in the dark over this. Any help or advice much appreciated. Thankyou Beverley
Supose you were able to find out who the undertaker was+if there were any surviving records? Just an idea!! The site given appears to be simply an 'online ordering' service site and is offering only 'official long form' certificates to 'Irish citizens, residents and families' worldwide. In addition, any death certificate ordered through this link will have its information automatically added to a 'death register' which is to be made available to the public free of charge.. On looking at the current 'death register' I notice it contains the names (and maiden names in some cases) of people who died in May this year. Peculiar?? I'm sure many of us have secured certificates and/or printouts well outside of these dates for events in Ireland (I myself have printouts for deaths in Ireland from the 1860s. However these have been ordered either directly from the GRO or through an agent.) I would advise some caution and further research before using these types of services. However in response to the actual query, none of the certificates/printouts I have for deaths in Ireland give the place of burial. It's just up to the family. It's more than likely she's buried with the husband unless the grave was full or if her parents had family graves specifically bought for sons/daughters. If she was courting again, she wouldnt b buried with him Sent from my iPhone Maggie On 2 Jun 2010, at 17:41, john tyner <johntyner2001@yahoo.com> wrote: ok, say she DID die in Middleton, would she then be moved back to where her husband was buried or buried in Middleton? Hi again John, I went to the website you posted, truthfully I don't think it has much to do with genealogy or finding details on ones ancestors. Below are a couple of links for the GRO in Dublin. http://www.groireland.ie/ http://www.groireland.ie/fees.htm The register of deaths has entries from 1864 for the civil registration of deaths in Ireland to the present day. If you can locate what you think is the correct entry in the online indexes for civil registration of deaths send the index details to the office with the relevent fee (this seems to be six euros at present) and ask for a photocopy of the original entry in the register. The index entry details are: full name of person, registration district, volume number, page number, and of course year of death. You should be able to find the death you are looking for at this website, search under deaths. http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=collectionDetails&c=fs%3A1408347 <http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=collectionDetails&c=fs%3A1408347> The full entry from the deaths register will not give place of burial, it may list place of residence, also name of informant (sometimes a relative), cause of death and a few other details.
