Hello, I am on a quest to search for links (births, baptisms, marriages and deaths) on the COGHLAN family. A direct link to myself is a Michael Patrick Coghlan whom is believed to have been born ~ 1857 and emigrated to Australia ~ 1870. He married Annie Short in 1885 in Newcastle, Australia. There is a possibility that he originated in Cork County. Can anyone help? Roxanne.
Hi, My great great grandfather was James Kennedy, a mariner maybe living in Silversprings, Cork. His daughters Mary Agustin (known as Polly) married John Neff, my great grand father, in Cork in 1871 (James Kennedy was not living at this date). Polly had sisters called Hannah and Ellie. Hannah married Cronin and Ellie married Mason (a daughter Mae Mason married Fogarty) If any of this rings a bell, please contact me. Éibhear Neff. RESEARCHING : NEFF, KENNEDY (CRONIN, MASON), McAULIFFE (CURTIN), FORDE (RING, HEALY, DELANEY), SHEEHAN (PHILLIPS, GOUGH, HOGAN, O LEARY, JOYCE)

Hello List members... John Adkins - Cork - Parish Baldmoney - Location: Derriere/T/Ball John Adkins - Cork - Parish Confer - Location: Newmarket / T/ Newmarket, Island. May I trouble SKS to look for a birth in the Catholic church for a John ARKINS who was born c1828, in CO CORK, for the names of parents of John, please. John said on 5 birth certificates of his children...[all born in Australia]. He came to VIC, Australia, in 1838/9 as a 9/10 year old. The names of the 1st son of JOHN were John Charles, and the 2nd son was named Thomas Henry. John didn't ever reveal the names of his parents or grand parents to his children. When he died in Newcastle, NSW, Australia,1896, his eldest son as informant put U/K, U/K for parents and details. This has now proved a 'brick wall' ...over the years I have found that in the late 1840's he moved to Maitland, NSW, Australia. He married Catharine [Kate] HENRY,1855 in the Catholic church, West Maitland, NSW, Australia. I welcome any suggestion or thought.. thank you. Regards, Mary shortis@spot.com.au
Hi, I am searching for Ian COWAN and his wife ________ REYNOLDS. They were from County Cork, Ireland. They had one son that I know of by the name of John COWAN who was born 8 May 1827 in County Cork, Ireland. He may have had a sister. When Ian and his family left Ireland they immigrated to the United States, it is not know what ship they went on, where they left from or when they arrived, or where they arrived. The first record I have of John Cowan, was that he was married and had some children in Ottawa, Canada in the early 1850's. Apparently when the Cowans came there ship wrecked and they all had to swim to shore, John was just a child. Ian and his wife were passing a daughter back and forth, and some how one of them lost grip and the baby was lost at sea. According to the 1900 census records John was 73 years of age, born in Ireland and both his parents were born in Ireland. Also stated he had been in the US 50 some years. It has always been our belief that the COWANS first went to Canada, but it is possible they landed in the US and migrated to Canada later. No proof of that however. John COWAN md. Margaret LYNOTTE in Ottawa, Canada. There first five children were born in Canada. They then came to Redwood City, CA. between 1860-1862. My Great grandfather John Merrill Cowan, their 6th child was born in Redwood City. The 7th child was also born in CA. They had seven more children which all were born in (Douglas Co.), OR. It is possible and highly probable that John Cowan who md. Margret LYNOTTE had a brother named Thomas COWAN, for I find him living next to John Cowan in the 1880 Census of Douglas Co., OR. Here is a descendant report I have. If anyone has information please contact me! Sincerely, Heather W. I've been off this list for quite a while. One of my relatives has told me that a fellow researcher and shirttail relative who used the handle Sean Ruad has passed away....tell me it isn't so! I know he was a regular contributor to this list. Pat Bohinski IRISH ROOTS IN THE WHELTON NAME.
Hi There is a graveyard in Macroney Lower. I havn't visited it (I used to live nearby but now live in London)but if it is like others I have visited it will not be a pretty sight. It will be overgrown and with gravestones difficult to find - assuming there were any there for your family. There is a Registrar but he recently informed me that the registers had been mislaid. It may be worth visiting him - Michael Kearney at Castlecooke. _________________________________________________________________ Chat with friends online, try MSN Messenger: http://messenger.msn.com

I am looking for the family of Mary O'Keefe. Mary (Elizabeth?) O'Keefe was born in Co. Cork in March of 1865. Her parents were David O'Keefe and Hannah or Margaret Coleman. Mary married Timothy Slyne in Newton, Mass. I know of one sister, Margaret. She too immigrated to the Boston area where she married a James Barry in Winthrup, Mass. If anyone has any knowledge of this family, I sure could use the help. Thank you, Dottie

I am looking to develop information on the Patrick LITTLE family of County Cork. Patrick was married to Mary A. Sullivan, also of Ireland. Patrick's son Thomas LITTLE emigrated to Quincy, MA (USA) in 1927, with his children; two of which were 9 & 7 years. I have no doubt that this is a Catholic family, as evidenced by Church records. I am also looking to connect my Bernard LITTLE family of Quincy, MA to Thomas'. Any information/ direction is greatly appreciated. Dan Little of Tulsa., OK
Does anyone know how I can purchase a copy of Tony McCarthy's book, on Tracing your Irish ancestors.....? I met Tony back in 97 in Cork City and should have purchased a copy then.......Anyone have any ideas how to pick a copy of stateside? Thanks in advance. Regards, Monica McCarthy
In 1832, two ships the "Persian", barque, and the "Norval" arrived in Hobart, Van Diemans Land. Both were owned by Gale. The "Norval" left from Cork late 1831. Has anyone information about the shipowner Gale? Has anyone information about these ships/ Thank you Beryl Atkin
It is important you mention the scale of the map you are recommending. I made the mistake of getting a 1inch to 3 mile (1/210,000) Ordnance map, which is really too small for genealogical purposes, as it does not show small hamlets, churches and many castles. I believe the Discovery Maps is to approximately one inch to a mile (1/50,000) which is a much better scale. Also check the master map to make sure of the area the map covers, before purchase, as each map only covers a limited area. Alfred Gabb

Two other researchers I contacted have a similar problem and none of us can link our family trees either. Crazy, because I have no doubt that we all come from the same stock! According to my Grandfather John Martin O'Neil, John and Margret Sullivan O'Neil(l) came to Canada on or before 1830. They settled in By-Town, now the city of Ottawa. They later settled on land near North Gower, Carleton County, Ontario - this land was on the Rideau River near Kars. They has seven children there. I am searching for information about their parents, possible siblings and date of marriage in Drinagh (Dreeny). If they followed the Irish naming pattern, John's father was Timothy and his mother Catherine. Margret's father was Michael and her mother Mary Ann. A letter from a sister-in-law Flora Sullivan, dated 11 Sep 1850, informs John and Margret that a daughter left in Ireland died 6 months after they sailed for the USA. Two daughters of John's sister(?), Mary went to the USA - one was Johnana O'Neil(l) who went to Leominister MA. Flora also mentions a brother-in-law, Corneilis (spelling?) Sullivan. I do have information on this family once they came to Canada and would be glad to share. Thank you for any and all help on how to locate information on John and Margret Sullivan O'Neil(l) from Drinagh (Dreeny) County Cork Ireland. The descendants spell O'Neil with one 'l', but I think that it originally had 2. Ann O'Neil Crosby Nicholson jonnick@rconnect.com
