    1. [Cork] Margaret Connor or O'Connor, Robert J. McDonnell or McDonald
    2. Greetings, I am new to the list. My Margaret Connor was born 1878 perhaps in County Cork. She had an older sister but her name is unknown and she married Robert J. McDonnell. Margaret married Robert J. McDonnell about 1900 either in Ireland or in Philadelphia, Penn. after her older sister died. The story has it that Margaret was sent for from Ireland, to be a nanny to her sister's children. I do not know the names of Margaret's Parents, but Robert J. McDonnell's father was Robert J. McDonnell born in either Ireland, or Scotland. I have seen it mentioned that Margaret was born in Wexford-Leinster, Erie Province, but grandchildren state County Cork. Any suggestions ? Sincerely, Laurie Wilcox

    3. Rebecca - you can also contact that Irish Valuation office and request original copies....plus they can research the successive evaluations. I paid around $40 for copies from 1852 to 1970. By doing so, I found a cousin who still lives on the family farm! You can find them at www.valoff.ie. They also have copies of the maps that show the properties in the Griffith's evaluation. 1. [Cork] Dunn, Hefferman, Mahoney, Ryan
    2. Chris Mahoney
    3. I am researching the above names which originated from either Tipperary or Cork. The people I am looking for are Michael MAHONEY, son of William MAHONEY and Catherine DUNN was born about 1854 and married Bridget HEFFERMAN about 1871. Bridget was boun about 1851 and was the daughter of Michael HEFFERMAN and Catherine RYAN. They had a number of children before leaving for Queensland in the 1880s. I would like to know more about the above people and wouldn't know where to begin. Thanks _________________________________________ Visit my Web Site at http://cmahoney.orcon.net.nz/

    3. For those of you who asked about this project to provide access to Church of Ireland (Anglican, Protestant) records in Cork, see the web address below. http://cork.anglican.org/Parishes_overview.htm They have only some computerized, but if you have a place and some vague dates as I had, they were very good at looking through unindexed film. I stress that I prepared for 6-10 years before having enough information to solicit the search. The set price for a restricted search is US$30. Better ask for other currencies. They do not have an email address for use in this project and expect you to deal with them by mail. I sent a brief register report from my database HEAVILY footnoted [spent a lot of time preparing them] so that they would not waste time looking at sources I had consulted. The first edition of John Grenham's TRACING YOUR IRISH ANCESTORS has the list of C of I films extant. The reason I used this service is that these were not LDS films and I had no way to see them in the USA. Just a reminder to new computer users: you don't need specific web addresses to find things. Just type what you are looking for into your search engine, and it will bring up the library, society, archives, service, whatever, in the first ten searches. Elizabeth KnowltonEW@Compuserve.com

    1. [Cork] Records in West Cork -- again - O'Neil, Hayes
    2. Peg Garry
    3. In April, my husband and I, a daughter and her husband are going to travel in Ireland. We will visit West Cork. I am remembering the stories of the two men who watch over the records of West Cork. When they were last discussed it was suggested that the best chance of getting them to look for your records was to write ahead of a visit. Does anyone have the address to which I would write to contact these men? I have one record: ggrandmother, Catherine Hayes who was baptized in Skull in 1810. She married Daniel O'Neil and they came in about 1952 with their children to the US. Beyond the baptismal record I have only a couple of letters, one from Drishane and one from Balldehob, that put the O'Neil's in that area. Thanks for any help you can give me. Peggy

    2. Elizabeth W. Knowlton
    3. I cannot remember now who on a Cork list referred me to the Cobh Genealogical Project for researching Church of Ireland (Protestant) records in Cork city, but I want to offer a BIG thank you. I got a letter today that gave me the baptism dates for my gr gr grandmother and her sister and the marriage of their parents in Christchurch (Holy Trinity) in Cork City. These records were not yet computerized, and I believe they just slogged through the microfilm using the rough dates (1829-1837) I had provided. There were several churches to search, and this was not filmed by the LDS, only by the National Archives of Ireland. It is true that I had labored for over 15 years to get the information necessary to narrow it down to Cork city and some dates, but this was sure a wonderful boost. Shows how the longer you research the less you need to find to feel accomplished. I have not moved back any generations, just found specific data on people who were once unknown or very vague to me. Anyone doing research on city of Cork (and some other areas) for Anglicans (Episcopal) who has definite names and some idea of dates will find this a US$30 well spent. As the person who referred me said, they went the extra mile and also looked up some related things for me-- much more than an hour's work. Elizabeth KnowltonEW@Compuserve.com

    3. Rebecca The full version is available on microfilm at your local family history centre (ie the mormon church). In addition to the info on the index the full version contains: name of landlord a description of the property (usually about 2 - 6 words) land area valuation also on film at the FHC are the valuation books, these are similar to Griffiths but are organised by district electoral division (Griffiths is by civil parish). They usually start about 5 years after Griffiths and will give a more or less continuous picture of land ownership for the following 100 years.
