    1. [Cork] what records to look for and where do I start?
    2. Dear list members: I recently came into some information a relative had collected in the 1930's.It states that the brother of my great great grandfather of Ballyrisode,Parish Kilmoe,Co Cork amassed a great fortune in India, died of the Plague and this fortune reverted back to the "Crown" upon his death. His sister and other members of the family attempted to get it back without success. It certainly is a colorful story, more so than the simple farmer and fisherman roots I have found so far. How, I wonder, would I find out if any of it is true? Does anyone have any idea where I can start? Regards, Nancy Kie

The above is a national library manuscript number, to access any national library material you will need to employ a professional researcher or visit Dublin yourself. 2. Norm Ruddock
    3. Peg: If you go to the Co. Cork Rootsweb.com message board search engine and type in "Jean Rice Landowners" you will get her grand contribution of the 1876 Landowners in Co. Cork. I am not aware of a previous Landowners List. Jean has taken on this task for each Co. in Ireland, and the Landowners Lists are on each Co. message board, typing in the same keywords. These Lists are set up in multiple sections (posts) by alphabet, so you will find about 20+ of her posts that cover an entire county. The Landowners lists cover people that owned One Acre or more in that county. You can get to each Ireland Counties Message Board at this location: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=localities.britisles.ireland If you like what you see, and I know you will, please thank Jean for this splendid accomplishment and a job well done! 1. [Cork] Cyndi Has Been Busy in Ireland
    2. Norm Ruddock
    3. This morining I checked out Cyndi's List for her Ireland Information, and was pleasantly surprised to find some new additions. Her site and this section of it has about anything you ever wanted to know about Ireland and were afraid to ask about, until now! and more to boot! (How to, Lists, Places to Go to Find Data, Ireland Oriented Web Sites, Various types of records available to search from and where to find them, online data bases to search, message boards, how to build a web site and the tools to do it with, Book lists and where to find them, CD's and where to find them, Software and where to find them, Cemeteries, IGI Batch Numbers, and on and on it goes from there). Take a look and see for yourself: http://www.cyndislist.com/ireland.htm You might want to bookmark this page (if you haven't already) and refer to it often, as it is a wonderful tool to have in your genealogy tool box. I should check here more often, as the list continues to grow and amaze me! There is even coverage of copyright there that might be of help to those of you withholding sharing some pieces of information that you have on this list, that would be of help to others.. Maybe reading it will help all of us understand the law and our safe use of copies & extracts. http://www.genuki.org.uk/org/Copyright.html Another excellent section on Cyndi's site is the one on Online Searching, that leads to the Mormon LDS Site in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA. This link is really helpful for helping you with online searches.. http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/RG/frameset_rg.asp?Dest=G1&Aid=&Gid=&Lid=&Sid=&Did=&Juris1=&Event=&Year=&Gloss=&Sub=&Tab=&Entry=&Guide=Ireland.ASP Here's a section that help you with using the internet: http://www.cyndislist.com/internet.htm And I thought, I knew everything about using the internet! This is a great section on her site that provides the tools & instructions to build your own web site: http://www.cyndislist.com/construc.htm If I only knew about this one before I started my first web page project. How simple it would have been! Even the tools are here to let you do it. Friendly Software, tools to put your site on the search engines, automated method of putting keywords in the right place on your web site so the search engines will find your site and know what's in it, where to find free web space on an internet server. The whole nine yards! There is not enough room to show all the good things on Cyndi's web site pages. No doubt most of you have " been there, seen that or done that", so for those of you who haven't, and those that haven't been there recently, check it out! Her main page is at: http://www.cyndislist.com I hope this is of help to all of you! Thanks Cyndi! You even have my web site listed on SW Co. Down, now you can't get better than that! Ha Ha! 1. [Cork] Morgan
    2. John Beaton
    3. Hi all, I am a new member to this list and this is my first message. I am looking for any help with the following MORGAN family. A widow, Ann Morgan, and her children Charles (21), Mary Ann (17), Margaret (16), Fanny (14), and James (11), all residents of County Cork, sailed to New Zealand in 1842. Mary Ann is my Gt Gt Grandmother, and from her marriage we learn that her parents names were Jacob Morgan and Ann (nee Green) >From the above ages we can conclude Jacob/Ann's marriage was probably around 1820, the children were born between 1821 and 1831 and Jacob died between 1831 and 1842. The family were Catholic. Firstly, does anyone have a connection to, or knowledge of this family. Failing that, can someone with knowledge of Cork parish records advise whether I am likely to find any details of the marriage, births and death, and, if so, how best to go about it. Regards John Beaton Brisbane, Australia

    1. [Cork] Looking for Australian Cork researcher Damien Hynes
    2. Elizabeth W. Knowlton
    3. Well, after absent-mindedly posting this to the Kerry list, here goes again: Damien Hynes <djh@alphalink.com.au> An Australian doing research in SW Cork posted a message to the Rootsweb Co Cork board about two years ago. His email address has expired, and I am trying to find him. Have any of you run across a Damien Hynes? I take it he is an Australian. He was researching Blairs in SW Cork. I tried the Australian white pages, but you need to know too much information for me to use it; and it shows nothing but first initial so I cannot know which D is Damien. Thanks for any help. 2. colman Ahern
    3. If you have access to a LDS Family History Center try looking for his birth in the yearly indexes for civil registration of births in Ireland, they start in 1864. Send the index details to Dublin GRO for a photocopy of the complete entry from the registers. If you know any of his siblings first names search for them also. The birth registrations give both parents names, search for their marriage in the marriage indexes. Colman Ahern, Berkeley. Edward Barry wrote: > My. father, Daniel J. 2. colman Ahern
    3. There might be Kingston estate records in the following, page 148 in Ryan's: "The Origins of Co. Cork Kingstons." J. Cork Hist. & Arch. Soc. 76 (1981): 75-99. Try emailing Cork City Library for photocopies of the article. See if the LDS have "Manuscript Sources for the Study of Irish Civilization" by Richard Hayes, its a guide or catalogue of what is available re estate records and where they can be found. Iff you are interested in the period after Griffith's Survey, again the LDS may have the Cancelled Land Valuation Books on film for Kilworth, they are very informative. Look under Land Records on their website. Colman Ahern, Berkeley. Jay Kubik wrote: > Hi List - > > Does anyone know if the above exist.
