    3. This is just a reminder that we do -not- indulge in sending St. Patrick's Day greetings, poems, etc etc on this list. Please do not send such messages.... It is much better if you send these messages privately to those you correspond personally. These lists have too many people to get into these types of messages. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter. 1. [Cork] Haydens in Cork 1870's
    2. Tami & Bill Clark
    3. Hello readers, I am trying to find information about my great grandfather, Thomas Joseph Hayden b. Tipperary Ireland, April 23, 1871. His younger brother Francis Joseph Hayden was born in Cork 1873, younger siblings Margaret in 1875 and Bridget 1877-80. The 3 older children were sent to Canada as orphans in 1883, father was killed and mother or grandmother kept Bridget. Parents were Francis Hayden ( tailor) and (Margaret) Ellen Quirk. I am not 100% sure anymore if Thomas was born in Tipperary, as I am having hard time finding birth registration for him, have heard from General Registrars that not everyone did comply to civil registration back then, that explains why I did not find his siblings birth registrations in indexes of births at Latter Day Saints library. I did find 5 Thomas' for 1871, not a one in Tipperary or Cork, I may have found out that parents were married after Thomas' birth, so am hoping they did register his birth as they might not have had him baptized. I have ! found a marriage registration of Francis Hayden and Ellen Quirk at St. Nicholas Liverpool, May 23, 1871, one month after Thomas was born. Could anyone give me advice on how to search parish records from Canada, I will never make it to Ireland myself, can't afford to hire investigator or anyone else to conduct search for me, would appreciate any advice. Thanks, Tami.

    2. Peggy at peggarry@attbi.com writes: << I am searching for the location of Clonpriest. Griffith's gives names which are in my ancestral lines in the townlands of Ballymadog and Clonpriest West. >> Peggy, Both of your townlands are located in Clonpriest parish, and are about 4 miles SW of Youghal, about as far east as you can go in Co. Cork. They are adjacent townlands, on the north bank of the Womanagh River, which empties into Youghal Bay, and are right alongside the R 633 out of Youghal. Discovery map 81 shows the townlands, and a ruined (probably old parish) church in the next townland of Clonpriest East. You might want to pick up that map before you leave, or at the aiport on your arrival. Pete Schermerhorn, in the glorious Berkshire hills of western Massachusetts

    3. Hello... Just subscribed to the list last week and wanted to say hello... My great Grandmother, Bridget Riordan, was from Meelin, Co. Cork and her husband, my Great Grandfather, Patrick Collins was from Garralacka which is just outside of Clonakilty. They came to Connecticut in the 1890's and married in 1904. Do we have any list members with ancestors from these 2 townlands?? Bridget Riordan's mother was Mary Herlihy and her father was Benjamin Riordan. Benjamin's mother was a lehey/leahey. Benjamin was born in Meelin back in the 1840's. Other names mentioned with the family are shine, and creeden(kanturk. Patrick Collin's mother was Mary Hickey who married John Collins. Mary hickey's parents were Thomas Hickey and Joan Barry. John Collin's parents were Cornelius Collins and Mary Hayes. Before coming to the U.S., in the early 1900's Patrick Collins worked At the hungerford estate in Ballyvackey which adjacent to Garralacka. The big house was called Sumount by Lord Hungerford's family. Do we have anyone on the list with any ties to these families or townlands?? Would love to hear from you.... 1. [Cork] Genealogy Key Words & Your Help
    2. Norm Ruddock
    3. In an effort to put together a compilation of Genealogy Keywords to use on the various Search Engines, I would like your help in putting together the key words you use in your searches that you have had good luck with. When finished with the Key Word Compilation, I will share the list with all of you. If you have combinations of key words that work best, please give me your top 5 that you use most often. This is probably the most important part of the request. I have found that using "Surname Genealogy Location" or "Location Genealogy Ireland" of "Location History Ireland" gives me quite good results (sometimes too many to handle), but I would like to get the best results possible in the least amount of time. I think we are all in the same boat, in that regard. The location in my examples, can be County, Parish, Townland. The types of Key Words being: Place Names (county, parish, town land, country, etc.) Surname or First Name Surname (This applies to all surnames in general and would be different for everyone of us) Genealogy History Irish Ireland Northern Ireland U. K. Type Record (specific types is what is meant) Book (type books, specific books, or book authors) Military Census (there aren't many to choose from here) Inscriptions (Cemeteries) Cemetery History Center or Genealogy Center Library Museum Archive Web Sites or Site And So Forth No need to be specific, all that is needed is the broad category covered by the word choice. I have scoured the internet for Genealogy Key Words and Combinations of Key Words and cannot find a listing anywhere. That was a surprise to me! This is aimed at improving our search results. As we all use search engines, this should be important to us all. Search Engines are the number one tool used on the internet. Please don't make this too difficult, just the main search words that you use most often and not all the other possible choices. Thanks in advance for all of your help and cooperation! To keep these responses so that they will not affect the others on the list, please only reply to my email address and not the list. Norm Ruddock
