    2. Jim This is my husband's ggg grandmother. We were at this cemetery in 1999. I didn't realize that it was St. Coleman's Church. The sign on the wall only read Farahy Cemetery, Cork. Thanks. 1. [Cork] Mallow Heritage Centre
    2. J Garrett
    3. Kay, Like you, I wanted to visit Mallow Heritage Centre when we visited last May. Upon our arrival, we found the office to be in a building on the main street, but was told that the researcher was on vacation, Ihad very good luck with them by mail. they provided a wealth of information thru Church records, and they were very prompt; the replies came within 10 days. I don't think that they're set up for anything but business by mail, but I could be wrong. A PP at Doneraile told me that Mallow has the same records that are available in the Churches, so this will save you a lot of running around. I was highly satisfied in my dealings with the Centre. Trish at righton@talk21.com writes: << I would like to know if Balastin and Balemarstel are/ were areas of Cork. >> Trish, Off-hand, I don't find any very similar townland/town spellings in Co. Cork. Do you have names of any other locations which might be in their general area? Cork is a large (the largest) county to search, and any other hints would narrow the search. If these names are on hand-written documents, perhaps we could have a "second opinion" <gr> on alternative spellings? 3. Questions about times of major events show time and again the need for family historians to do some background reading on the history of the area they are researching. A short history of Ireland or even and entry on the history in an encyclopedia helps to put these events into context. 1. [Cork] DED maps
    2. michael cronin
    3. There are plenty of maps available that show the civil parishes but I have never been able to find any of the District Electoral Divisions (I know there is an OS version but I don't have a copy) I have now drawn my own covering East Cork south of the Blackwater. They were compiled using the townland index of the 1911 census and because of that are somewhat less than 100% accurate, if anyone can find any mistakes please let me know. http://homepages.paradise.net.nz/hanson/DEDmaps.html For those that do not know the District Electoral Divisions are used in place of the civil parishes in the Valuation Books (but not Griffiths) and the 1901/1911 census returns. 2. Linda Egan Flynn
    3. I've had wonderful results from the Mallow Hertiage Centre by mail. I sent them my husbands grandmothers name and d.o.b. (1868) and her parents names along with $50 US. They sent the parents marriage date and place, ALL their children (I only knew of two) along with the christening dates and sponsors names. That's not all....they also sent the marriage of one of the boys and the christening dates and sponsors of his children who are probably still in C. Cork. They asked for another $25 for all that information and I sent it gladly. So if they cannot help you 'while you wait' I'd leave them some money and all the information you have. 1. Re: [Cork] warrant for arrest
    2. Jan SKS can correct me but it was probably the Fenians around that time (1860's). Maurice FitzGerald (William's father) ran a "safe house" for the Fenians on the run in Garryarthur, Limerick in the 1860s. The Black and Tans were around during the fighting in the 19 teens and 1920s. My mother who lived in County Down during that time told me about the Black and Tans. Oliver Cromwell was much earlier (1598-1658). My questions are what happened in County Cork in 1870? Was that the time of the Black and Tans and Oliver Cromwell? How can I get records of the arrest warrants? Thank you for any information anyone can give me. Jan Murphy-Hole
