Hi again Can anyone recommend a researcher specialsing in the South West Cork area? TIA Cate Bacon
Dear List I have come across a reference to an entry which is apparently taken from the Index to the Marriages in Walker's Hibernian Magazine 1771 to 1812 by Henry Farrer; London, England; 1890. I would like to follow up on a reference to a portrait which is in the issue of the magazine, I think for Mar. 1788, p. 193. Does anyone have any information about this magazine and/or could suggest where I could locate it? TIA Cate Bacon
Hi Shirley, You would need to define the location St. Finbarr's Cork. Saint Finbarr is the patron saint of Cork and therefore we have many places named in his honour. Apart from the parish of St. Finbarr we have (in Cork City): St. Finbarr's Road (twice), St. Finbarr's Park, St. Finbarr's Place (twice), St. Finbarr's Street, St. Finbarr's Terrace, Regards, Brendan Jones (Virus Free).
I am interested in finding out more about Roger Connor (O'Connor) who was born in Connerville, County Cork in 1762. I am having trouble finding where records are for to be found for Connerville, as I have not been able to locate it on a map of County Cork Civil parishes. I understand it is near Brandon but I am not sure what parish/barony I should be looking for. Help would be greatly appreciated. Best Wishes Cate Bacon

Dear fellow Dundons, Welcome to issue No. 5. I hope my new Yahoo email address will make me more accessible. I would be happy to hear from anyone with comments about The Dundonian or from anyone who would like to contribute something to it. I would appreciate record of any Dundon births, baptisms, marriages, deaths etc. The rains have come here to Yambio at last. The place is looking lush. I was in a compound a few days ago and saw mangoes, bananas, oranges, custard apple (Anona reticulata to you!) and coffee. But a Bic, an exercise book, a pair of decent shoes are not easily come by. I hope to visit the schools with the Education Secretary during May. We will bring some school materials for them, purchased with money given me when I was at home in Ireland last year. God bless, John. 1. MEET PATRICK DUNDON AND HONORA FITZGERALD Patrick Dundon and Honora Fitzgerald lived in Patrickswell, just outside of Limerick city. I just tried to respond to Phylllis' inquiry re. John O'Connell and I realize I sent it to the list AND included the whole digest version in my response. I apologize for that oversight. Blaine O'Connell Brookfield WI
I have been working on an O'Connell family in Massachusetts beginning in 1850. My g g grandfather was John O'Connell, born in 1825 " in Ireland". His father was Jeremiah O'Connell and his mother Bridget. Your John would have to be a son of a brother of my John if there were to be a connection. But I noticed the name Jeremiah in your family. Does your information go back any further than your John O'Connell? Would any Lister be looking for descendants of John and Mary Anne CONNELL, John was a Tailor, and wife Mary Anne had the maiden name of CONNOR, they were living in Indusrey Place County Cork in the late 1889. Has anyone by any chance ran across any surnames Freelin or Sahan?

Hello: Having exhausted many avenues of research with respect to my Eedys, I would like to request some general information. First of all, can anyone confirm or clarify the term "Admons. and Bonds"? It is my understanding that when an individual made a will, it could be registered prior to or at the time of death. Hence an "Index to Admons & Bonds for the Diocese of Cork" which states a date for 'bonds'. On this index, the date varies from the date listed on the "Index of Wills for the Diocese of Cork" which notes the date as the 'year of probate'. Both of these indices were done by Phillimore. My second enquiry has to do with the general Protestant settlement in Ireland. A family tradition has always referred to 2 brothers as "foot soldiers for Cromwell" although no records can be found to support this belief. I have found documentation placing the Eedys (and variant spelling) in County Cork from 1717 on. The 1717 entry is for Rathcony and the rest are for the area around Bandon and Clonakilty. (I am not sure of the exact location of Rathcony.) A 1753 deed from William Morris gave Nicholas Eedy the Younger a 999 year lease on the lands of Knockavohor. I was able to confirm that William Morris was a yeoman and I assume received land as the time of distribution. The story goes that Jonathan Eedy apparently settled with Sir Michael Cox at Killdee and Nicholas Eedy at Killbree with Col. Allen. I have read everything I can find on the Cromwellian settlement including Prendergast's book and there is no reference to the surname Eedy. Thank you very much for any information you may be able to shed on any of these queries with respect to admons and bonds, Rathcony, Sir Michael Cox, Col. Allen and Protestant plantation prior to County Cork. Susan Eddy
