I just found a deed indicating that my ancestor, George Graham, came originally from New Market. He would have lived there in the late 1700s. There is also an oral history in our family that we are related to John Philpot Curran, probably through the Philpots. This latest discovery makes that story much more creditable. Does anyone know what information on gravestone inscriptions are available for the New Market area? This web site is an Irish web site with a page for each of the 32 counties. Each county page has a list of each civil registration district in Ireland for thatcounty, indicating whether or not the district covers only that county or more than one. The civil registration districts were the Poor Law Union Districts generally. There are three links for each district - each linked page carries references for entries in the Irish Civil Registers. Not the actual records themselves, but references required to order photocopies from the Irish General Registrar's Office. There are over 168 registration districts for the 32 counties. the number of references for any district vary from ten to 300 The site is www.from-ireland.net cait >From: "Phyllis Steel" <steep@ozconnect.net> >To: CountyCork-L@rootsweb.com >Subject: [Cork] bmd Websites >Date: Thu, 23 May 2002 22:19:47 +1000 > >Does any Lister know if there is a web-site in Ireland the same as the U.K >httm://freebmd.rootsweb.com > >Phyllis Steel from Australia. > > > >==== CountyCork Mailing List ==== >** CountyCork Mailing List homepage >http://community.webtv.net/shamrockroots/countycork ** > _________________________________________________________________ MSN Photos is the easiest way to share and print your photos: http://photos.msn.com/support/worldwide.aspx

Greetings, I'm searching for my grandmother's family of ROURKE'S. Ann was born in Woolwich, U.K. in 1880. Her father was JAMES 'MICHAEL' JOSEPH ROURKE, born in 1858 in Woolwich also. James married ANN POWER in approx 1845 in Ireland. They had a son JOHN ROURKE, born in 1847 in Ireland. James was in the military, in the Royal Arsenal. He was stationed in Bermuda sometime after John was born in 1847 and the time their daughter was born in 1850 in Bermuda. The daughter was ROSINA ROURKE. They also had a son, JAMES JOSEPH, born in 1853 in Bermuda. They moved back to England, to Woolwich, somtime between the time of James birth in 1853 and Michael's birth in Woolwich in 1858. I found a 1861 census for them in Woolwich and Ann was living at the barracks in Woolwich, while James was away with the military. He was on the 1881 census as a retired Sergeant, living in Woowich. I haven't been able to find out where in Ireland that James and Ann were from. My grandmother always said they were from Cork, but not sure if it is correct. If anyone has any connections to any ROURKE'S or POWER'S in Cork, I would like to hear from you. Thanks, Deborah
With some excitement I contacted the address given a few days ago for the Representative Church Body in Ireland as follows >>I wonder if you could possibly tell me please if any Records exist for the NEWMARKET area of North Cork from the 1790-1860 period. My Great Grandfather ,George Joseph Rogers, left Ireland to join the Bengal Artillery in 1849 and from research in London I found his place of birth to be Newmarket,Co.Cork. We visited the town some years ago but while finding that the Church was now a store we did find a grave that might have been that of my Gt.Gt Grandfather, Joseph Rogers. He is reputed to have lived at the Priory, the former home of John Philpot Curren and his grave is in fact next to that of Curren's daughter Sarah. It is also possible that my family had connections to the Aldsworth Family of Newmarket Court - at least in a lowly form, as a Rogers is shown as their Butler in the 1770's!<<<<< I received the following very prompt reply:- "Unfortunately the Newmarket registers comprising baptisms 1771-1875; marriages 1771-1844; and burials 1771-1875, were destroyed in the fire at the Public Record Office of Ireland in 1922. No copies are known to survive." Why do people have to fight amongst themselves? Hope that your day is better...... Peter D.Rogers. Looking for ROGERS,PEMBROKE,BRADLEY & HARRISON in Ireland, India and anywhere else that they settled.
Can someone tell me if rate books, business license applications or other records, pre 1805, exist for Cork which might list grocers/wine merchants. Directories and deeds have been searched. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Marjorie
I am searching for the location of two O'Connor/Keohane marriages in Ireland. My Great, Great Grandfather John O'Connor married Johannah Keohane about 1847/1848. My GGGGrandfather (John's Father) married Hannah Keohane about 1820-1824. John and Johannah arrived in Boston, MA in 1848 with no children. Their first born Michael was born in Weymouth, MA in 1851. Both John and Johannah died in Weymouth. John in January 1893 and Johannah in February 1893. Weymouth town death records show HER Parents as Dennis Keohane and Mary or Marg Reagan. She would have been born about 1827. The town records indicate that two brothers Daniel and Timothy Keohane lived there also. A number of these families lived in two parishes Desertserges and Kilmocomoge in Cork. They are listed in both Irish Flax Growers List 1796 and Griffiths 1848. Does anyone have access to church records that could find Birth and Marriage records to locate any of the people I am looking to find. Jack O'Connor, Massachusetts native living in Texas.
I have access to Birth and marriage records in the Albert Casey O'Kief series. --On Sunday, May 12, 2002, 2:55 PM +0100 Tim Callaghan <tim.callaghan@4hstc.freeserve.co.uk> wrote: > Does anyone have access to any BMD or census records for Dromtariff? > > Tim > > > > ==== CountyCork Mailing List ==== > ** Visit the IrelandGenWeb at http://www.irelandgenweb.com ** > >

Following my reference to this library's wealth of information about Church of Ireland (i.e. Protestant) clergy earlier this week, a couple of people have sought more information. Best places to find details are either in the usual reference books or on the net. James Ryan's "Irish Records" lists the full name & address details as: Representative Church Body Library Braemor Park Rathgar, Dublin 14 and advised that it "holds some surviving Church of Ireland parish records, records of the C of I clergy and other records and books relevant to the C of I". The Library's web site is: www.ireland.anglican.org/library/libroots The site includes the following advice: "Apart from Church of Ireland archives, the RCB Library holds a number of collections with obvious attraction to genealogists. Among the more important are the biographical succession lists of Church of Ireland clergy, compiled by J B Leslie; collections of copy wills; extracts from the destroyed 1766 religious census; and collections of pedigrees." "The staff of the RCB Library will be glad to offer advice on all queries concerning Church of Ireland archives and manuscripts and related printed and reference works. It should be stressed, however, that they will not undertake genealogical research on behalf of readers." "If you have any genealogical queries, please contact the RCB Library - Email: library@ireland.anglican.org - in the first instance." Good luck. Allan Murphy Sydney, Australia
