    1. [Cork] Earl of Kingston - Lewis's Topographical Dictionary
    2. Can anyone tell me if any records exist pertaining to the Earl of Kingston? My ancestors, Thomas and Michael Parker, leased land in Billeragh East, Parish of Macroney from him (according to Griffiths Valuation). I was wondering if any records exist relating to the leasing of his land? Also would anyone be able to tell me what Lewis's book says about Billeragh East, Parish of Macroney? Bill O'Loughlin

    1. [Cork] Catherine O'DONNELL
    2. Barbara Wessinger
    3. Any suggestions or advice on how to go about finding my gr-grandmother's family? She has such an ordinary Irish name and I do not know what Parish she came from ... only that she arrived in the USA around 1855 (I think I've found her on a passenger list). Her parents were Michael and Catherine O'DONNELL. Tradition says she came from County Cork! Not much to go on but I'd truly like to find her and have no records to go by before her NY City arrival. We figure she was born in 1837 or 1838. Will appreciate any help! 1. [Cork] a "tip" to add to my success story
    2. Maura
    3. I've been reminded by some reactions to my success story about not giving up (which I sent yesterday) of a -VERY- important point.... Many people change email addresses often, and if you made postings and someone wants to connect to your old address, it will be a problem.... I always advise people to post a "reply" message to message board postings they made (not just a new message, which will not be threaded in the archives), stating their new email address. For mailing lists, a message of something like "for the archives, my new email address is __ searching ____. " (don't just send a general "here's my new email" message - again it wont' get picked up if someone does a search on the surname/place from the archives) And , while I'm at it, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER give out your address or phone/fax number in an email or posting -- you'd be surprised at how many rotten people are out there and have equipment to find those things and steal identies etc. (I've noticed some of you have your home address/phone or business address/phone in your signature line --- NOT a good idea!) Hope this things help someone..... 1. [Cork] about 1930 US census films
    2. Maura
    3. I don't know if anyone has posted anything about this or not... hopefully it will help someone. I used to volunteer at my local FHC (and sort of unofficially still do) and have been asking the current director to find out exactly when the FHL in SLC will have the full set of 1930 US census films to rent/view (currently only available at NARA branches, and some scans online for a fee on certain sites). He said SLC told him they would be available this fall - did not know if we would have to call SLC for film numbers, but thought (based upon something else) that by then the online catalog and/or catalog CDs in FHCs were going to be updated. For info on the 1930 census, what it contains, what states are soundexed (mostly southern) see the section on it on my Helpful Hints page, url below. If you are going to be searching in a state not soundexed (like NY) it may take you from now til the fall to find the right ED # for your family. :( Maura <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><> Maura Petzolt mpetzolt2@webtv.net <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><> SHAMROCK ROOTS homepage http://community.webtv.net/shamrockroots/SHAMROCKROOTS Helpful Hints for Successful Searching http://community.webtv.net/mpetzolt2/helpfulhints

    1. [Cork] Why you should never give up!
    2. Maura
    3. This is a great example why you should never give up searching, and why you should make sure your information is listed on mailing lists and message boards..... Most of you know I've been working on my McGlynn's in Brooklyn (from Ireland c. 1830) who I am desperately trying to connect with 2 Farrell families I find living next to the McGlynns, serving as godparents etc (I'm trying to make this short, for details see http://community.webtv.net/mpetzolt/genealogy , choose Paternal Irish) but can't find anything definite to prove it beyond any doubt. Many of you also know of my elusive GATHLENY search, as Catherine McGLYNN married Nicholas Gathleny in Brooklyn in 1863, moved around the US via the Army and ended up near me in Pensacola FL. That's been a total dead end ( pardon the pun) as Gathleny is evidently a mangling of some other name, and I haven't been able to connect with current relatives. Well, a little over a week ago I got an email from a Gathleny cousin who was mentioned in an obit I had, but could not find online, or anywhere for an address where they live in Texas. Basically I was about to give up when I got this email saying, "we did a search and found your info, and gee, all the names match. We need to talk on the phone". Two hours on the phone later, and bingo! I had all the stuff she didn't know, and she remembers all the major people in the research, and some current cousins still in Pensacola..... and the kicker was when she said she always heard the Farrells were connected to the McGlynn side! More evidence, only now, I have someone to work on it with me! And someone who actually -knew- my great aunts and uncles I have only "met" on paper! So the moral of the story is.. get your info out there. Put it on messages boards, mailing lists, do your own webpage. Search engines find this stuff, and maybe no one is looking for your people right now, but eventually someone is bound to.... and who knows where it will lead you! Hope this helps/inspires someone.... 1. [Cork] Margaret Josephine McDONNELL
    2. Roslyn Mckearney
    3. Hello Listers, This matter is urgent. I am placing the following on all Lists in Ireland. If you have any information regarding this person please reply in private. I obviously cannot stay subscribed to every list as much as I would like too because apart from everything else, my email box would explode. I am living in South Australia and researching our family history, and am keen to trace Mr my husband's Birth-mother, Margaret Josephine McDONNELL. Miss McDONNELL, moved from Co Dublin to Birmingham, in August 1947 and lived at Hazelville Road, Hall Green until the early 1950's. Miss McDONNELL, who was known as Josie, worked at Joseph Lucas Ltd, probably at Formans Road or Shaftmoor Lane. Miss McDONNELL, may have married thus changing her name. If still live, she will now be about 85 years old. My husband's birth-mother may have returned to Dublin in later years or well could have gone to another part of Ireland. Anyone who remembers her or can give any information is asked to email Roslyn McKearney at cooindabbs@ozemail.com.au . I would enphasize, please only respond if you have genuine information. Thank you. 3. The following is an index entry to WO97 British Army: Soldiers' Discharge Papers at the Public Record Office, Kew, near London. WO 97/592/62 JEREMIAH DE COURSEY Born BANDON, Cork Served in 17th Foot Regiment; 44th Foot Regiment Discharged aged 46 1819-1843 (The date range is an indication of the span of the record and thus his period of service; so if he was discharged in 1843 at age 46 his approx yob would be 1797). Only the index entry is available online. To get the record you will need to pay a personal visit or hire a researcher to do so for you.
