    2. I have been off this list for awhile, and now back on. I am researching the name SUPPEL and O'SULLIVAN in Co. Cork. Mary O'SULLIVAN married Wm. SUPPEL in Ireland. Their daughter Margaret was born abt. 1864, in Co. Cork or Kerry. I find Mary and her daughter Margaret in Ohio in 1880. Trying to find other members of this family. Is anyone familiar with this family, or researching the name SUPPEL? Thank you for any help or suggestions R.Moore

However, if you provide a postal address I can send you a list of accredited researchers who might be engaged to carry out this work. 1. [Cork] Murphy Glentainn/Mallow
    2. Elizabeth W. Knowlton
    3. The short answer is: 1) collect EVERY extant US record; 2) purchase a guide to doing Irish research, such as are listed on Cyndislist.com; 3) determine the exact location using http://www.seanruad.com/ The Blackwater river flows right by Mallow, as you can see on a map or in an atlas. I am not familiar with Glentainn (although it sounds rather like Glountane where my own ancestors lived, south of Mallow). You do not say, but it sounds as if they were Roman Catholic. The Heritage Center in Mallow could probably do some work for you (for a fee) if this all sounds too complicated. What you need (after you have collected everything here) are the parish records, baptisms and marriages. If they were in Mallow, you are lucky as the records go back to that period. Good luck. I am trying to find leads on the Murphy part of my family. I have a Patrick Murphy born in approx. 1806 in Ireland. He married Hannah Catherine Mulchinach (I believe she went by Catherine though). She was born in approx. 1810 in Ireland. Patrick drowned to death in the Blackwater or Blackbackwater River in Ireland probably sometime after 1836 and 1864. They had approx. 3 sons and 1 daugther. Their daughter, also named Hannah Catherine Murphy was born 17 January 1836 in Glentainn County Cork, Ireland. Daughter Hannah immigrated to Sandy Hook, NY in approx. 1851. The three sons of Hannah and Patrick Murphy are Patrick, John, and Edmund. In 1864, daughter Hannah brought her mother Hannah and two of the brothers (John and Patrick) to the US. Daughter Hannah married in 1857 to John Sharp(e) and moved with him to Evanston, IL. Mother Hannah died November 1883 in Chicago IL and was buried 19 November 1883 in Calvary Cemetary in Chicago, IL. I am interested in any specific dates (birth/death/christening etc) on Patrick MURPHY and Hannah Catherine (Mulchinach) MURPHY. I am also interested in any information related to the details of Patricks death--all I have is that he drowned in a River....one accounting tells me it is the Blackwater River and another says it is the Blackbackwater River...both note it is in Mallow County Cork Ireland. Any details on Patrick or Hannahs parents or siblings would also interest me. As for Patrick and Hannahs three sons.......I do not have much information on them so any details on the three sons would also interest me. If anyone has a connection to this family and would like the details of the family in the US from daughter Hannah Murphy and her husband John Sharp to the present time, please send me a personal email request at suzyking@aol.com and I would be delighted to provide you with my research as I currently have a detailed report on them. Thanks, Suzy<

    3. Hello; >From the Cancellation Books, Valuation Office, Dublin. County of Cork, Barony of Condons and Clan Gibbon, Parish of Macroney, Union of Fermoy, Electoral Division of Gortnaskehy. Ordnance Survey 20, 28. 1880-1900. Townland of Billeragh East Page 4 Lot #11 Edmond Parker, In Fee, Land 8 acre/2rod/16perch. Note: This is bracketed with Lot 10 Cathe Veale in 1891. On Lot 10, Cathe Veale is crossed out in favor of Nathaniel Buckley. Nathaniel Buckley is crossed out in 1892 in favor of Abel Buckley. Also, in 1892 there is a pencil mark circling the name Abel Buckley. Also, Reps. of Abel Buckley 1891, indicating Mr. Buckley passed away and his estate was under the control of an administrator or administratrix. There is a note in the margin that Edmond Parker was on lot 11 in 1896. The Buckley's seem to be principal landlords in the area. Page 6 Lot 15 a Nathaniel Buckley, crossed out in favor of Edmond Parker, Ho. and Land - all notes between 1892-1896. Then, "new ho. 97" is written in the margin. Page 12 Billeragh West Lot 6 which was land and flour mill - is noted "91 mill in ruins". William and John Parter [I can't decipher whether this is Parter or Porter or Parker, because it is crossed out in favor of Edmond Kennelly in 1891]. This is only one Cancellation Book covering a period of time in the late 1800s. To get the overall history, I think you would be well counseled to hire someone in Dublin to go through the House Books (pre-Griffiths) and the rest of the Cancellation Books for other years, depending of course on your level of interest and willingness to commit funds to further research. But I think I can tell you a bit about the current status of the townland. It's located about 6 miles SE of Mitchelstown. The townland contained about 15 buildings as of 1973 (don't have a clue about today), and is a very elongated townland. It runs about 3 miles north to south, between the Tipp. border at the top and the Araglin River at the bottom. The east-west width averages about a half mile (a little fatter at the southern end - about 3/4 mile - where a church of unspecified denomination is located.) The elevation at the northern end of the townland is nearly 1000 feet, and at the southern end, I'd guess the Araglin is only 50 feet or so above sea level. I have a URL pencilled-in on my Townland Index map. Let me see if it works. If so, it might be of interest to you. OK, the Murray Family have changed their website and it could take a bunch of searching. But, at least the URL gets to their general URL. I'll leave it to others to try to sort-out the Townland Index Map from the site. Anyway, here's the original URL (which will work to get you partway there): >> www.murrayfamily.org/1935_townland_index_map.htm << If you can find it, it is identical to the Ordnance Survey map I used to give you the above information (together with Discovery Map 74). 2. Al Lewis
    3. Hello List: This is my first posting. I'm interested in the North Cork area, the Mallow and Fermoy areas in particular. Many folks left that part of County Cork in the 1820's to come to the region around Ottawa,Canada, either via assisted emigration or to work on the canals here. I'm especially interested in tenants on the large estates belonging to Lords Kingston, Ennismore, Doneraile, etc.and the conditions in Ireland in the 1820's which caused so many people to leave. There are lists of the "Peter Robinson Settlers in 1823" who came here on my website - including many of the common surnames from North Cork (and nearby parts of Tipperary, Limerick and Waterford). Among the many SULLIVAN and BURNS ancestors which I am researching, I'm also searching for the origins of less common names: STACKPOLE from Glanworth and CHRISTOPHER from North Cork and Waterford. I have a search engine for surnames at http://www3.sympatico.ca/ag.lewis/history.htm and my north Cork material (gathering stuff for a trip there next year) is at http://www3.sympatico.ca/ag.lewis/dream.htm ... 1. [Cork] Murphy Glentainn/Mallow County Cork Ireland
    2. Hi. Thanks, Suzy
