    1. Re: [Cork] Registration Districts
    2. William P. Fahy
    3. Kay, If you have the correct spelling of the townland and hopefully the county you are in good shape. If you do not have the correct spelling and/or the county there is still hope. Go to www.seanruad.com and enter the name of the townland and the county and submit the entry. The resulting display will usually give you, as the last item on the right, the designation PLU (Poor Law Union) which 99% of the time is the Registration District. If you are not sure of the spelling of the townland or the townland cannot be found input the first three, four or five letters and check the type of search, on the right, as beginning of field, and you will get a listing of possible townlands. It is then just a process of elimination to decide which one is closest to yours and the end column will give you the PLU or Registration District. Bill Fahy

    3. David, There are two sources for you to investigate. Fanlobbus is in the RC Parish of Dunmanway Dunmanway RC Baptismal Records in National Library of Ireland June 21, 1918 - April 24, 1838 & July 1, 1837 - Dec 29, 1880 Dunmanway RC Marriage Records in National Library of Ireland June 21, 1818 - November 27, 1880 Both on microfilm POS4805 and no charge to enter library or use microfilm/microfilm reader. Write or call the following, though I do not know what response you will get since I have no personal experience with him. He should have all the records through the present day. If you are dialing from England use the country code for Ireland and drop the initial zero in the phone number, as that is only for local calling. 1. [Cork] Sullivan/Daly/Daley
    2. I'm searching for my ancestors who came from County Cork. My great-great grandparents were Timothy Daly and Honoria Sullivan. They married in County Cork in 1878 and then came to the USA in 1879/1880. I believe they settled in PA at first and then moved to MA where they settled down for good. They changed the spelling of their last name to Daley. They had about 13 children: Eugene, Michael, Timothy, John, Francis, Ellen, Christopher, Agnes, MaryAnn, Ambrose, Julia, Fredrick, and Genevieve. I do have a copy of Tim and Nora's marriage certificate which lists Paul Daly as Tim's father and Michl Sullivan as Honoria's father. Mary Sullivan is also listed on there as a witness. Not sure if this is her mother, sister, sister-in-law, other family member. I am having a hard time finding anything out about these family members, ancestors, or any descendants other than those of Christopher who is my great-grandfather. If anyone can help, I'd really appreciate it. Any information on the Daly/Daley family or the Sullivan family would be great! Thanks. Mora

    3. 1. [Cork] Clarification - Cork IGW page
    2. Maura
    3. Just to clarify, my page at http://community.webtv.net/shamrockroots/corkigw is the ONLY and OFFICIAL site for County Cork associated with the IrelandGenWeb , which is part of the WorldGenWeb. The page cited at http://www.rootsweb.com/~irlcor/index.html is in fact not a part of the IrelandGenWeb, it is a part of a totally and unrelated project . I believe the host of that page is on this list actually. Now I have no problem with more than one page for researchers, but I do need to clarify that that page is not part of the IGW. The link at the bottom of her page that says "IrelandGenWeb" in fact goes to the other project, which may be misleading to researchers. The OFFICIAL IrelandGenWeb is at http://www.irelandgenweb.com <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><> Maura Petzolt mpetzolt2@webtv.net <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><> SHAMROCK ROOTS homepage http://community.webtv.net/shamrockroots/SHAMROCKROOTS Helpful Hints for Successful Searching http://community.webtv.net/mpetzolt2/helpfulhints

    2. Denis Grant
    3. And the following is from the Cork Ireland Gen Web http://www.rootsweb.com/~irlcor/jcas.html Journal of the Cork Historical and Archaeological Society The Journal of the Cork Historical and Archaeological Society (founded 1891) contains many genealogies and notes on particular families. The genealogies are of wealthy families or those of historical interest. However Richard Henchion's series of Cemetary Inscriptions in JCHAS also contains notes on 'ordinary' families in the various localities. Copies of JCHAS can be found in major universities worldwide. Among the genealogies and notes on families in JCHAS are: Barry of Barrymore, Besnard, Edmund Burke, Carew, Cotter of Rockforest, Cramer/Coghill, O Crowley of Coill t-Sealbaigh, Denny, Drew, Galweys of Munster, Healy of Donoughmore, O Hurly, Kingston,Lavallin, Limrick, Long of Muskerry and Kinalea, O Mullane of Whitechurch, Murphy of Muskerry, O Mahony of Kinelmeaky and Ivagha, O Regan of Carbery, O Hea of SW Cork, Penrose, Phaire, Rochford, Rogers of Lota and Ashgrove, Ronayne/Ronan, decendants of Edmund Spenser, Stout of Youghal, Uniackes of Youghal, Trant, Waters/Walters. Information furnished by Jean Prendergast In the North America, the Library of Congress (probably among others) has bound volumes of the CHAS. In addition, you may want to check your state or regional libraries; e.g., Boston Public Library, University of California at Berkeley, Library of the University of Chicago, Cornell University Library, Dallas Public Library, Family History Library (Salt Lake City), Harvard College Library, McGill University Library (Montreal, Canada), National Library of Canada (Ottawa), Newberry Library (Chicago), New England Historic Genealogical Society (Boston), New York Public Library, Peabody Library of the John Hopkins University (Baltimore), University of Pittsburgh, Princeton University Library, Samford University Library (Birmingham, AL), Yale University, Sterling Memorial Library. If you can identify a particular article in a volume, your local library can order a copy for $3 - $5 from the LOC. You can search the LOC catalogs and indexes at http://www.loc.gov Information furnished by Thomas Ronayne Regards, Donnacha ----- Original Message ----- From: "Denis Grant" <denis.grant@sympatico.ca> To: <CountyCork-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, June 19, 2002 11:59 AM Subject: [Cork] Journal of Cork Historical and Archaeological Society [was Graveyard photo] > A list of contents of some recent issues can be found at > http://www.xs4all.nl/~tbreen/Journals/Cork.html > > I seem to recall that a CD of past issues was issued in recent years. > Anyone know? > > Regards, > > Donnacha > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Charles Tucker" <xctuckerx@adelphia.net> > To: <CountyCork-L@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Wednesday, June 19, 2002 8:25 AM > Subject: Re: [Cork] Re: Graveyard photo > > > > "Journal of Cork Historical and Archaeological Society" > > > > Originating, I believe, in the late 1800's > > > > > > > > ----- Original Message ----- > > From: "Nora L Magee" <topsey@bellatlantic.net> > > To: <CountyCork-L@rootsweb.com> > > Sent: Wednesday, June 19, 2002 5:39 AM > > Subject: [Cork] Re: Graveyard photo > > > > > > > Dear Michael > > > > > > What is JCHAS?? > > > > > > > > > michael cronin wrote: > > > > > > > > This is a photo of Clonmult graveyard > > > > http://homepages.paradise.net.nz/hanson/Clonm-grave.JPG > > > > It can be considered typical of the state of many of the older > > graveyards, > > > > in this case all the stones were read and published in JCHAS about 30 > > years > > > > ago, just as well !! > > > > > > > > Michael
