    3. Barry If you are looking in east Cork / west Waterford then the name is probably a mis spelling of Keniry or Kinery or Kiniry or even McHenery. All of those are recognised vaiations of the same name. I had family myself of those names nearby at about the right time. There are a lot of headstones at Dangandonovan http://www.sci.net.au/userpages/mgrogan/cork/dangandonovan.htm I have also been told there were Canary/Kinery families in Sandwaich and Randolph, Massachusetts fron the 1840s. 2. Cara_Links
    3. Many marriages were not recorded as you are all aware of but what is happening is when I was at the BDM in Dublin even when using their books the cross references they ask for were not matching with what they were producing in photo copy my honest oppinion is folks if you have the correct data you are better to contact the health board of the said city .......as in this case Cork and see what they will supply for you as in my case I have now been using the Eastern Health Board of Wicklow when I have the correct data and that is proving more worthwhile. It is only a suggestion for those of you who are not receiving what you desire correct information and certiificates no one has to take my advice its just a thought. Cheers from Cara I remeber contacting the Health board in Cork once by typing it into the Google search engine but I do not have the email address now folks

    3. I need a Lister's help, My Grandparents marriage details were given to me from St Finbarr South Church, Dunbar St, Cork (maybe City of Cork) John O'CONNELL married Mary Anne CONNOR 12 July 1874. With this information, I applied for a copy of the marriage certificate to the Office Of The Registrar General, in Dublin, giving relevant details and monies to cover costs. Sadly I received the following:- A search has been made in the records for an entry relating to the marriage of John O'Connell/ Mary Anne O'Connor for the year 1873 to 1875 inclusive. No entry, corresponding with the particulars given in your recent application, was found for that period. Could a Lister please explain why this is so?, and could someone tell me how I could obtain the marriage certificate?. Phyllis Steel from Queensland, Australia

    1. [Cork] Donovan
    2. Thomas Ronayne
    3. The most probable reason for a young man seeking his fortune in the Colonies in 1650 would be that he was too far down the succession line to either inherit anything -- that meant that his options were (1) the church or (2) the military or (3) emigrate. If you will contact me separately I would be happy to send you a GEDCOM file of most of the Donovan line from county Cork.

    1. [Cork] Donovans
    2. Joana Donovan
    3. I am a new lister who has recently returned to the US after spending 15 days in beautiful Ireland. My husband is descended from a Donovan (John, Foster, Francis or Timothy) who left County Cork about 1650. I have traced him back to 1674 in Virginia, USA. My daughter and I spent 1 1/2 days at the County Cork Library trying to find links to our family line. We copied many records but have not found any direct links so far. We found the people very friendly and helpful. A visit to Castledonovan revealed that the site has been taken over by Duchas (?) and there was scaffolding inside the castle ruins. We would like to keep abreast of what is happening to the castle and was wondering if there was some kind person near Drimoleague who would be willing to share occasional info with us. We are also wondering if someone knows why a young man from County Cork would choose to go to the "New World" in the 1650? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Joana Donovan Maryland, USA

I was in doubt if there were any Canary's in Ireland let alone Cork. I see from my trusty map that Waterford borders Cork so now I wonder if I should expand my search to Waterford. It could be my Mary Canary came from Waterford. All list members, If anyone happens upon a Mary Canary that married a Laurence McCarty or McCarthy sometime in the 1829-1843 range, then I would do handsprings! This couple is supposed to have had a child in Cork in 1843 but the Mallow Centre could not find me a match.
