    1. [Cork] Model Farn Area of Cork
    2. Can anyone tell me where the Model Farm area of Cork is? I was told that my relatives were from that area prior to moving to Macroney Parish. I think it might have been outside of the city of Cork on the road to Mallow. Does anyone have any info on this area? Also, if they were from that area, which church or parish might they have belonged to? Bill O'Loughlin

    1. [Cork] St. Finnbarr's Church, Cork
    2. A lister queried regarding BMD registers at St Finnbarr's Church, Cork. According to 'A Table of Church of Ireland Parochial Records and Copies', published by Irish Family History Society Naas, Co. Kildare, 1994, the records of the reference Church were destroyed in 1922 during the War. I suggest that the Lister write to 'Libarian and Archivist, The Church of Ireland, Representative Church Body Library, Braemore Park, Churchtown, Dublin 14' for additional information as some records MAY have been reconstituted. 0841MST 31 August 2002. It's called "Cobh - The Queenstown Story" and it's phone number is + 353 (0)21 4813591 It's e-mail address is cobhher@indigo.ie and it has a web site at www.cobhheritage.com I don't know how good the parish priest is for responding, but you might want to try; St. Coleman's Cathedral Parish Office, Cobh, Co. 3. > I am searching for information on John Harrington of the Caobach line, from Castletownbere. John was born Kristey, are you on the Beara list? It is for the Beara Peninsula specifically. It sounds like you have a lot of info already. Professional genealogist Riobard O'Dwyer has written books containing the "family trees" of the various parishes, but unfortunately some of them are sold out. I think his address is riobardodwyer@eircom.net but if this isn't right he is fairly active on the list anyway. He researches this area only (no queries on other parts of Cork or anywhere else!). If you don't want to contact him immediately you could always "lurk" on the list for a while. Hope this helps, Tracey.

    2. john murphy
    3. Hi List, I have a female ancestor who came to New South Wales and her average age when she married in Sydney in 1840 was 18 years, this makes her born in c1822. After 1856 when registration became compulsory in New South Wales, she said she came from Carrigaline in County Cork in Ireland. The Society of Australian Genealogists ( SAG ) - Irish Group - advised me where she said she came from was where she was born in Ireland. I am researching - 1. Assisted Immigrants to New South Wales 1828 to 1842. 2. New South Wales Convict Arrivals 1788 to 1842. 3. Residents of the Female Factory at Parramatta in New South Wales 1826 to 1848. I am using the book " Irish Records " by Dr. James. G. Ryan Ph.D. 1988 edition which is used in the Latter Day Saint's Family History Library at Charlestown for Church of Ireland and Roman Catholic Parishes for all of Ireland. I am using it to compile a database of Roman Catholic Parishes in 1820 for Co Cork. I have just commenced to look at the Irish details in Mother Hubbard's Cupboard.on line. I wish to compile a 89 cm (35 inches ) wide by 68 cms ( 27 inches ) high map of County Cork Roman Catholic Parishes. I have heard that maps are available from the Ordinance Office in Dublin. I am considering using Heritage Centres in County Cork for my Irish searching. Could list members please advise me of the following points - 1. Are Heritage Centre research charges reasonable. 2. Do I have a good chance of locating an 1822 Roman Catholic birth in Carrigaline in County Cork by using the Heritage Centre for that Region. 3. Do I have a chance to obtain a 89 cm wide by 68 cm high map of County Cork in 1820. 4. What maps should I considering purchasing for 1 1/4 inch to the statute mile for Carrigaline in County Cork and where would I have to write to, to purchase what I need and could you please indicate the possible price of the map. Thanking you, John Murphy, Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia. murph@idl.net.au

    3. Hi listers I am trying to find information about my ancestor JANE AVIS. Jane was born about 1806, and gives her place of birth as City of Cork, Ireland on the 1851 census for Helmingham, Suffolk, England. Jane married RICHARD BRUNNING at Helmingham in 1824, and was "of the parish" at this time. Jane was protestant, and may have earned her Helmingham parish status by working there for a year, but I wonder if she could have been born in Ireland of English parents, possibly military, or whether she just came to England to work. If anyone knows of any AVIS families of this time in Cork, I would love to hear from them. I understand that this series of maps is either available, or can be ordered through, Gould Books there in Australia. The charge is about 7 or 8 U.S. dollars (that's a few hundred Australian dollars <grin>). You may have to pay a bit more because of postage, but that's the general price range. It's a great map. 2. charlene bauer
    3. Wendy, The story goes that our CAVANAGH/CAVANAUGH relatives resided in Cork for some time before leaving for the US. This would have been in the late 1840's to mid 1850's. The family of BRYAN CAVANAGH was originally from Kilkenney. His wife was Mary HART or COLLINS. They had three daughters: Catherine, Julia, and Mary. They are a difficult family to trace, so it would be great if you recognized these names or that someone else would. Good luck with your research. 2. Unfortunately the librarian has not marked the photocopies with the name / dates of most of my photocopies . If I had done the photocopies myself , obviously I would have done this , and its quite annoying not to have the details , but I was just happy to get the photocopies anyhow . Regards Carol PS . I imagine these notices could go on the newspaper extracts website , but not sure as I dont have the full details of the sources .
