    1. [Cork] O"REGAN
    2. Katherine O'Regan
    3. Hi everyone, I am looking for O'REGAN, TIMOTHY. Our story begins with a TIMOTHY O'REGAN who was born in Ireland about 1841. His parents were TIMOTHY O'REGAN and KATHERINE BURNS. I believe they came from Cork but I have not been able to prove this. TIMOTHY obviously had a education as he was able to read and wrote with a very fine hand. On 9th March 1861 TIMOTHY O'REGAN sailed from Liverpool England, aboard the ship the "Prince Consort" which was 1235 tons, she carried 124 adults and 23 children. The Captain was Robert Jones and after 113 days at sea they arrived in Melbourne Australia. Timothy may have come from Clonakilty area. I was never sure when the family spoke about Cork, whether they meant the County or Cork itself. Any help would be much appreciated. Katherine O'Regan

    3. I'm not sure where my gg grandparents, Patrick COLEMAN(b.c.1829) and his wife, Ellen CATON(?)(could be Katon/Keaton??)(b.c.1831) are from - but I'm guessing Cork way!! They settled in Northwich, Cheshire. Children - Mary, Denis & Sarah (I know of). The 1821 census (of Inching****) has a Denis COLEMAN (Head) and a Cornelius CATON (Head) not too far away from each other. If anyone comes across a marriage of this elusive pair (not the 2 men - obviously!!) could you please let me know. I'm beginning to wonder whether I'm part of a mass experiment! If I am - it's working! Thanks Jane

    1. [Cork] Creedon/Cogan/Mullane/Harte/Twomey/Sexton
    2. Jeanette Johnston
    3. In going through my genealogy "archives", I found the following which I received from an American Kirwan cousin (who lives in Ireland). He has given me permission to post it here. To protect privacy, I have removed certain identifying information and my comments/changes are in brackets. Jeanette **************************** Creedon Research On Friday, January 28, 1998, I drove to Blarney and asked Fr Vincent ODonoghue, Church of the Immaculate Conception, about the Creedon family. He sent out a lady who told me that most of the people now in Blarney were not old families, and my best chance would be to ask [Ms] Creedon, who lives near the church. As this was the same [Ms} Creedon I had spoken with by telephone twice, who said the Creedon history I recited did not apply to any farming family of Creedons she knew of, I decided not to contact her again. I asked the lady if there were other parishes nearby and she suggested Waterloo and Inniscarra. Because Waterloo didnt have a resident priest, I decided to visit Inniscarra. On Saturday, January 24, 1998, I drove to Inniscarra at the church of St Senan, and Fr John ODonovan, the celebrant of a Mass just ending, introduced me to Mr Jerry (Jeremiah) Mullane, Cloghroe, Blarney. Mr Mullane thought my recitation sounded like the family of Michael Creedon. I showed him the photo Mick Kirwan had taken, in March, 1955, of three Creedon sisters and the husband of one. Jerry recognized them and named them: Mary, Nellie and Nancy. He then told me that Nellie had married his brother, Dennis Mullane, since died, and she now lived with her daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Mark Costello, in Killeens. Jerry said another sister, Norah, married Peter Harte, a blacksmith. He then told me Nancy lived in Grenagh. Michael lived on the farm, in the vicinity of Rathduff. I drove through Blarney, through Waterloo and to Grenagh. There, I stopped at the shop/post office to ask directions to the home of Nancy Twomey (who Mick had actually met in 1955). On the way, I passed the cemetery outside the town and located a Creedon tombstone where are buried (from this family) Ellen Creedon, died July 20, 1963 and her daughter, Norah (Harte), died August 9, 1966. I found Nancy Creedon Twomey at home and had a cup of tea with her. She said her grandparents were Daniel Creedon and Norah Cogan of Donoughmore and their children were Jeremiah, Margaret (married Charles Glass), Annie (Anna), Jack (John), Paddy and Norah. All but Norah went to America. Jeremiah returned, perhaps to take over the family farm. The farm is in the townland of Ballyfireen, which is in the civil parish of Grenagh, Registration District (formerly Poor Law Union) of Cork, Barony of Barretts and County of Cork, East Riding. Jeremiah and Ellen Creedon had these children in order of age: Norah (married Peter Harte), Dan, Peggy (married Terry Sexton), Nancy (married John Twomey), Nellie (married Dennis Mullane) and Mary. When Mick Kirwan came to Cork in March, 1955, Nancy was newly wed. She married John Twomey on February 14, 1955 in the South Parish church, Cork City. She had attended the Presentation School. She was then working for John Musgrave of Cornmarket Street. He was a wholesaler of groceries and a Protestant. When Mick Kirwan took the photo of the sisters and John Twomey in front of a fireplace, Nancy and John lived at Enniskeane, Victoria Road, Cork City. Nancy said Jo Kerwin visited her for a fortnight in 1966 or 1967. [This is my Aunt Josephine Kerwin.] This is the inscription on the Creedon tombstone in Grenagh cemetery. In Loving Memory of Michael Creedon Ballyfireen Who died 23rd February 1954 His daughter, Kathy Creedon Died 25, April 1943 His Sister Hanna Creedon Died 1st June 1938 Also His Mother Kate Creedon Died 25th February 1927 Ellen Creedon Died 20th July 1963 Her Daughter, Norah (Harte) Died 9th August 1966 Sacred Heard of Jesus Have Mercy R.I.P. Michael Creedon was a first cousin of Jeremiah Creedon, according to Nancy Creedon Twomey. Michael is buried in his family plot, but the town council ruled that no more burials could take place there because it was full, and so Ellen Creedon and Norah Creedon Harte were buried in Michael Creedons plot. ************************************************* __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? 2. Loretta at lorever@austarnet.com.au writes: << heard of a place called Toorinadrummond in County Cork. >> Loretta, I think I've seen your earlier request on this place, but didn't find anything at the time, either. I think it could be a massive spelling/reading problem - or even mis-hearing. The first part of the placename is undoubtedly "Tooreen". There are 36 of those in Co. Cork starting with Tooreen or called only Tooreen alone, and I'll have to admit that I don't see a single one of them which has an ending that looks anything like "drummond". There is a Tooreen Donnell. I would guess that the townland might be known locally as Tooreen Drummond or Tooreennadrummond/Tooreenadrummond, and is one of the "plain" Tooreen townlands with the Drummond surname added to identify the portion of the actual Tooreen townland inhabited or owned by the Drummond family. But this name is not recognized as an "official" townland. There are 10 of the plain-variety Tooreen townlands in Co. Cork which might be informally subdivided in this manner. If I get a chance, I'll try to locate these ten Tooreens, and see if - by chance - the Drummond name might appear on the Townland Index maps. But I'm not optimistic. 1. [Cork] Carrigadrohid Townland
    2. Townland Index (1837) Indicates that Carrigadrohid Townland was in Cork, W.R., Barony of W. Muskerry, Parish of Aghinagh, Poor Law Union of Macroom. This would be the CIVIL PArish of course. I don't know the Roman Catholic Church Parish for that area. You could do a couple of things, namely, write to the Mallow Heritage Centre, 27/28 Bank Place, Mallow, County Cork to see if they cover the Macroom area or, secondly, write to the Parish Priest, Roman Catholic Church, Macroom, County Cork, the shotgun approach. The Heritage Centre approach wiuld be the best avenue. You only have to give them the data from the Townland Index and anything else you have. They have always provided me with excellent service. Good luck! 1432MST 18 September 2002. John Myers, Cave Creek, Arizona, USA.

    2. I am looking for my GARRETT family in Ireland. I haven't had much luck. ANY help would be greatly appreciated. Hugh Garrett and Margaret Clark were the parents of James William Garrett b. Feb. 20, 1822 in County Down, Ireland and married Sarah Pettigrew. James & Sarah had my Great Grandfather Robert John Garrett b. Feb. 11, 1863 somewhere in Ireland. When Robert was about seven years old the family came to America. I haven't been able to find any more on this line of my family.
