    1. [Cork] James Wall and Maria Finneran

    3. I am new to this list. I realize this is if not a ridiculous querie a challenging one. (When I ran a querie on James Wall here in Massachusetts I got 10 pages of responses) But I'm making it. My great grandfather arrived here in Boston sometime before 1860. In 1860 he was working as a stonecutter and he Married an Annie Barrett. By 1864 Annie Barrett married someone else...(Wrong death report? Loneliness? I won't go there. How awful was it to be under 25 in a strange land with no one to give you a hug?) I'm thinking he went off to war with the Massachusetts 11th Infantry. (Civil War) He remarried in 1869. Maria Finneran. If anyone has any information on them I would love to share. It is my understanding from family legend that James haled from County Cork. His parents were Patrick and Mary. Lots of help, right? :-) Just happens to be the largest county in Ireland. Seems to be the most popular name in Ireland too! I hope someone who reads this can help me narrow the parameter! s a bit. BTW, our son went to Ireland when he was 14 as part of the Student Ambassador program. He loved it. You were so good to our children. Thank you. Especially to the lady in the pub in Dublin who offered Matthew an "orange". I sent my son. Someday soon I hope to be able to afford the trip for me. Alice Patricia Wall Hawrilenko PS My grandfather's people were from County Cork. My Grandmother was from Cavan (or Leitrim depending on the date). Trouble is, it's hard to find everyone. And we would love to.

    3. I'm really hoping that someone can help me with my County Cork Hennessy family roots: James Hennessy (Father's name might be Timothy, William or James). B: 1832 County Cork M: Abt 1850 to SARAH MARTIN D: Feb 1888 Chicago, Illinois I don't know if he came to the US as a small child, with his family, or as a young man with his bride, Sarah Martin. Apparently, came to Chicago via Liverpool and Philadelphia. He is first listed in Chicago in 1855, and lived there until his death in 1888. Children: William B: 1856; Ella A B: 1859; Catherine L B: 1862; Joseph H B: 1863; Francis G B: 1865; John W B: 1867; Margaret Mary B: 1868 (my grandmother); Sarah C B: 1871; James Edmund B: 1874. Family legend is that "he came from an educated part of County Cork". I will be so grateful for any Irish ideas or suggestions! Julie Fedde Pasadena, CA

    3. Message text written by INTERNET:CountyCork-L@rootsweb.com >I am still trying to find my g-grandmother, Ellen MCGREEVY, who married my g-grandfather Abel Brewster SPARKS. I went to the Ellis Island site and found 5 Ellens, but all came to this country in 1900 and 1901; my Ellen was here earlier than that as she is listed on the 1880 census along with her husband and child. I seem to have hit the provrbial brick wall. Any suggestions or information would be greatly appreciated! Deanna Blough< Well, Deanna, You have found your gr grandmother if you found her on the 1880 census! I guess you mean you want to find her in Co Cork?? I assume you have traced her back on every census here in the US beginning in 1930 or 1920, that you have collected all vital records for the family, cemetery records, church records, city directories (if in a city), land records (if in a country) for her and her husband and family. Usually the best records to give place of origin are tombstones, obituaries, and sometimes early church records soon after the person comes to this country. If you check the Ellis island site again, you will see that it does not cover the time period of Ellen's immigration, does it? However, the 1900 census gives year of immigration and naturalization. Was she married when she arrived? Usually the husband's naturalization covers her also, but check his naturalization record for more information. Maybe you have some more work to do before coming to the wall. Good luck, and feel free to ask us questions. Elizabeth KnowltonEW@Compuserve.com

    1. [Cork] McCarthy - Skibereen, Co. Cork
    2. Charles McCarthy, Scibereen (sic), married Joanna Myre (sic), Scart (Kildorrery, Co. Cork) 15 September 1828 in Kildorrery Parish, Co. Cork. The witnesses were Wm. Myre (sic) and Ellen Cotter. 'Myre' is probably 'Myers'. My gg grandfather was William Myers of Scart. He died in 1870, age 86, in Scart. This would make his year of birth 1783/1784. It is possible that Joanna was a sister. Does anyone have any information on this Charles McCarthy and/or any descendants? 1843MST 24 September 2002. John Myers, Cave Creek, Arizona, USA.

    3. G'day Listers, I am new to your list and hope to get some local help to assist me in tracing my grandfather BOHEN Thomas John born Shanagarry March 1880. He left for Canada some time on during or after 1900, may or may not have been with family members. We don't know what other family he may have had and are unable to ask anyone as my father and his two sisters and their father are all deceased some time ago. I hope there are some very helpful persons on the receiving end of this message, as I am in dire need of assistance. Thanks in advance. 1. [Cork] Records available to view in Cork
    2. Hi, I recently learned my husband's ancestor, Patrick Henry Keenan, was born in Cork. We don't know if that was City or County, or exactly what year, but it would have been in the later third of the 1700's. Are there any records from those years that I could see when I visit there this coming November? We know he was Catholic, and may have been married in Cork, and had children there. Do marriage records and baptism records for the late 1700's exist? Also, he supposedly came to the US in 1800. Do ship's lists from around that time exist that can be viewed? Thank you in advance for any information you can share. Brenda Keenan Raleigh, NC, USA

    2. Maura
    3. You are not really getting blank messages. Sometimes aol and msn turn digests into attachments which you have to open. Rootsweb does not do this, your isp does. You need to talk to your isp about resetting your parameters if you don't want them to turn it into attachments. This is not something I, or Rootsweb, can help you with.
