    3. Hi Bob, There was a Model Farm on Model Farm Rd. but it was a type of research establishment set up by the state. I have never heard of it referred to as Murray's. Don't take ages on marriage certs as gospel. Ages on death certs are even worse. How did you establish that the Model Farm was in the parish of Carrigrohane? Which Parish Priest did you write to? There is no Catholic Parish of Carrigrohane. Regards, Brendan Jones. > I am trying to track down the birth of my grandfather Martin Murray and have > hit the proverbial brick wall. > I know from marriage and death certs that he should have been born in 1871. > Family lore says that he lived at Murray's Model Farm, Cork. You can view it at an LDS Family History Center and then order the certificate. Wait until you get pre-1830 to talk about brick walls. :>} Elizabeth KnowltonEW@Compuserve.com

    3. I am trying to track down the birth of my grandfather Martin Murray and have hit the proverbial brick wall. I know from marriage and death certs that he should have been born in 1871. Family lore says that he lived at Murray's Model Farm, Cork. Searches have shown me that there is a Model Farm Road, so I suspect it is a place, meaning that it may have been Murray of Model Farm. The parish is Carrigrohane a little way from Cork city. A directory states that there was only one Murray family in Carrigrohane in 1851-3, so I can only assume it is the family I am looking for. I have had a search done for 1870 to 1872 at this location without success. I have e mailed the parish priest for help(no reply), I just don't know what else I can do so any suggestions will be most welcome. The story behind this is that Martin left home because he did not want to enter the priesthood and was disowned by his family. All his letters from England were returned unopened. So all I know is that his father,Patrick. either had or worked on a farm in the Carrigrohane area of Cork. Can anyone help? Kind regards Bob in Norfolk UK

The woman, age 62, died in a State Infirmiry from Tuberculosis.>> Thomas, As a non-lawyer, but a book collector hobbyist, most of my Mass. law and court books are from the late 1700's. But I do have more recent sets of the Mass. General Laws from the 1930's and the 1950's. They both deal with the same subject under Chapter 77, namely "School Offenders and County Training Schools". There is nowhere in this "Chapter 77" for anyone other than "habitual truants" and "habitual school offenders". No reference to adults at all. Perhaps the reference was meant to read "Chapter 71"? This chapter, under subsection 55B, refers to "Regulation of communicable tuberculosis; periodic examination of school personnel; sick leave with pay for afflictees". There is no mention in this section regarding burial practices, but in 1920, things may have been different. Pete Schermerhorn, in the glorious Berkshire hills of western Massachusetts

    1. [Cork] Aghadoe Supple Family
    2. I have recently received information on a Supple Family who was from Aghadoe, County Cork. I cannot find it on the map, would anyone know where this is, and what would the Registrar District be? I am going to Ireland next week and will be checking birth records at the GRO. Searching for MARGARET SUPPLE b. about 1863 (I'm hopping 1864 or later), in County Cork. Father was William Supple and her mother was MARY O'SULLIVAN. Mary O'Sullivan's father was Owen and mother Margaret ---- Thank you for your help. Rose

    3. I would be happy to check into that this Friday if no one has a quick answer. I seem to remember as a child that "TB" was one of those whispered words akin to "the big C" that no one spoke about. (Especially amongst the Irish community. I'm talking the late 50's into the 60's) I can't imagine what it was like before then. I reserve Fridays for genealogy. I work 10 hour days Monday through Thursday to have that privilege. If anyone needs anything from Boston please let me know. I'm ready, willing and able to help. Lots of you have helped me. I'm grateful. There is an Enniskeane T. in Co. of Cork, W.R., Barony of E. Carberry, W. D., Parish of Kinneigh, Poor Law Union of Bandon. There is also an Enniskeen in the county of Cavan. Taken from General Alphabetical Index to the Towns, Parishes and Baronies of Ireland 1851. I hope this helps. If not, let me know and I'll drag out a map :-). It lies along the north bank of the Bandon River, and is on the R 586 regional road directly to Bandon. The paired townlands of Ardkitt East and West are located just across the Bandon River from Enniskean, about a mile to the SE. The river is a parish border, so Enniskean is in Kinneigh civil parish and the Ardkitts are in Desertserges CP. Pete Schermerhorn, in the glorious Berkshire hills of western Massachusetts

    3. Greetings to genealogists in County Cork from one in N.Z. My Gt.Grandmother, Catherine HENNESSY, born Kanturk 1832, died1912 in Wellington N.Z. Her parents were Richard HENNESSY [ farmer ] and Mary Ann GLOVER. I have always understood that she was "transported" to Australia where in 1859 she married William Dix BARNES at Ballarat. In spite of many years research in Australia and Ireland, I can find no reference to her on any convict listings and as a last resort am wondering if she had any siblings left in Ireland whose decendants may be able to solve the mystery. Yours sincerely, Beverley Murray.

    1. [Cork] DENIS CONNOLLY
    2. Hi Listers, Seeking information on the family of my GG Grandfather, DENIS CONNOLLY. He was born in 1828, in ALLIHIES PARISH, BEARA PENINSULA, COUNTY CORK - son of TIMOTHY CONNOLLY and ELLEN DULIG/DUDLEY. Denis passed in 1871 in Allihies. His siblings were: JOHN - 1823, TIMOTHY - 1824, JAMES @1826 - MARGARET - 1832, QUINLAN - 1833, MARY - 1835, ELLEN - 1837. I know for certain that Timothy, Ellen and Mary came to Fall River, Massachusetts, and that James, and Mary [who married William Lehane] remained in Allihies., but do not know about John and Quinlan. Denis' sons, John, James and Denis remain a mystery to me, I don't know if they left Allihies. His wife Ellen Harrington and his daughters Ellen and Mary Anne, along with son Patrick, did come to Fall River, Mass. Do any of these folks sound familiar to anyone? Paula in Massachusetts
