I am looking for information on Abbie Lyons, b: abt. 1876 in Co. Cork. Parents were Cornelius and Molly Lyons and she had a brother John who lived in Ballyvouge, Co. Cork in 1934. Other siblings were Mary, Margaret, Julie [?] Daniel and Cornelius who all migrated to USA. abt 1892/5 and settled in MA and CT. Abbie married John Lehane [who changed his name to Lyons after immigration] and they settled in Brooklyn, NJ. I cannot find a marriage for these two in the USA and am wondering if they may have married in Co. Cork. Would appreciate any information at all. Peggy Townsville Australia

The Tithe Applotment Lists have been filmed and can be ordered at the LDS Family History Libraries. There are 140 film reels done alphabetically by townland name. The film for Buttevant is # 256576 and for Churchtown it is # 256584. Hope this helps. Kay
Does anyone know if lists exist for Buttevant and Churchtown area of Co. Cork and for what period? How would I access them? Thank you very much.
Speaking of Newmarket, I trace by ancestry to one George Graham, whose son married the sister of John Philpott Curran, a well know barrister and defender of Catholic rights in the late 1700s and early 1800s. Is there anyone on the list that traces their ancestry to the Grahams, Philpotts or Currans of Newmarket? I have found my gg-grandfather listed in the Tithes for Ballintemple (Churchtown), County Cork. He is shown living in the townland of Ballymacotter. Is there anyway of identifying exactly where his 17 acres would have been located? Thanks for any help. Kay
Hello Pete, Thanks for your reply. > The smallish townland of Clonfert lies about a mile SW of Newcastle town. Should that read "Newmarket town"? Graham
Hello Peter, Thanks for your reply. > The Church of Ireland building does still exist together with its > adjacent church yard, but...The building is now a store (or at least > when we visited about 5 years ago) for the local garage. That is nice to know. > The Bad News is that the whole of the records for this church went up in > smoke during the Irish Civil War of 1921/2. The news is not all bad. Before the fire of 1922 Col. James Grove White transcribed Church of Ireland records of north Cork parishes. The LDS has microfilmed the records transcribed by Grove White, and they appear on three rolls of microfilm, 0596420-1-2. The Church of Ireland parishes/churches included are: Ballyclough, Ballyhooly, Bridgetown & Kilcummer, Buttevant, Carrigleamleary, Castlemagner, Castletownroche, Christchurch (Cork), Churchtown, Clenor, Clonfert & Newmarket, Clonmeen, Doneraile, Drishane, Dromtariff, Farahy, Glanworth, Kanturk, Kilbolane, Kilbrin, Kilshannig, Kilworth, Lisgoold, Litter, Mallow, Marshalstown, Monanimy, Mourne Abbey, and Rahan. The transcription is not complete but it contains some headstone transcriptions for Newmarket. I was lucky enough to find some info relating to my Kenny family. I'm still not sure about the relationship between Newmarket and Clonfert. Does/did Clonfert have Church of Ireland of it's own oe did the Newmaket church serve both?
