Hello Pat I am researching the Mulcahy family tree. Do you have any more information on Nora Mulcahy? If so I would be grateful for any info you can provide. Thanks a lot. Below is summary of my Barry, McCarthy connections in Midleton/Cloyne area BARRY/McCARTHY - MIDLETON, CORK My gx2 grandfather was a shoemaker, Patrick Barry b.1803, living and working at 51 Main St Midleton in the 1840s and 1850s. My 2xgreat grandmother was Catherine (Kate) McCarthy b.1818 of Churchtown, Cloyne, parents - John McCarthy & Elizabeth Barry. Kate at age 15 married Patrick Barry b.1803 of Midleton in 1833 in Churchtown, Cloyne Parish. . Kate had an older sister Johanna b.1808 (living with Kate at 51 Main St in 1841 parish census), brothers David b.1810 and Garrett b. 1812. Kate & Patrick had nine sons and three daughters - Garrett b.1854, the sixth son, was my g/grandfather He became a telegraphist after he migrated to Australia in about 1877. An older brother was Patrick David Barry aka Patrick McCarthy Barry, b.1852 d.1925, aged 73, buried Holy Rosary Church, had continued to operate his father's shoemaker's shop at 51 Main St. He married a Johanna (?McCarthy) who died 1908 aged 57. He then married a May Esther ? who on his death married a Thomas Geaney. May Geaney ran the shoemaking business until her death in 1965 when the business was inherited by her niece who lived in Cork City. Although there were seven sons and three daughters I have never been able to contact any descendants of Kate McCarthy and Patrick Barry. The children were: Mary Ann b.1833 Richard 1835 William 1839 Elizabeth 1842 John 1844 Patrick 1846 Catherine 1849 Patrick David 1852 Garrett 1854 Justin Robert 1856 James Joseph 1859 Robert Henry 1852. I have written to many Barrys in the Midleton phone book and have had a number of kindly replies - none made a direct link although one referred me to the late Canon Bertie Troy who helped a lot! I am currently following up a lead suggested by a resident of Midleton - Hegartys in Kinsale may be descendants of Patrick David (McCarthy) Barry. Over the years, I have also written to newspapers in Cork City (Examiner) and in Midleton - but after 18 y. of searching I wonder if I'll ever make contact with descendants of my g x 2 grandfather Patrick Barry and his wife Kate McCarthy? Hi Gill, Thank you for your messages. Very interesting about the holiday camp. JOHN JOSEPH LYONS was married in TYLORSTOWN, GLAMORGAN to Evelyn May Day and died in BARNET, HERTFORDSHIRE age 63. He is not the JOHN JOSEPH LYONS in the bmd index born in Lancashire, 1902. It is his birth which we believe was in COUNTY CORK we really need to find to go any further as the family is complete from him right through to today. Many thanks for the offer. Hi Anne, I also spent many years trying to track down the movements of an Uncle of mine - John Lyons - who was born in County Cork and immigrated to USA in 1895. I had no success until I discovered that it was common for people with the name "Lehane" to change their names to "Lyons" on immigration. In fact I think it was more common than otherwise! I suggest you check the Ellis Is. site for both these names - was John Joseph born in USA and his father in Ireland? If so suggest you check the Ellis Is site for the arrival of the father under both names. Also check FHL records for births of John LEHANE in Co. Cork but I warn you it is a very common name especially in the N.W. of the county. My own Uncle, John J Lehane [Lyons] was born in Ballyvourney. Co. Cork and it seems to be the main area of the name Lehane/Lyons. Sorry I cannot give you any more help and wish you all good luck. Peggy Australia Hi there, I was wondering if anyone out there can help. I am researching a LYONS family who are believed to have come to the UK from County Cork. We do not know the year they came to the UK. The person we are trying to track down is a JOHN JOSEPH LYONS, he was born approx 1902/3 when he married in 1926 his occupation was a Pipe Layer. His father was JOHN LYONS a cab driver. JOHN JOSEPH LYONS married EVELYN MAY DAY and died in 1966. I'm afraid this is all the info. we have to go on. I was wondering if maybe the family were in the 1901 or 1911 census or if anyone has access to the birth indexes could take a look. Any help would be greatly appreciated, even if it just to point me in the right direction. Many thanks. Anne.

I am looking for the RING family, Kilshannig, Cork circa 1700 who emigrated to Canada intermarried with these people Ludgate, Heggart.Berry.RADLEY. Specifically CATHERINE RING who married THOMAS RADLEY late 1700s. Can anyone be of help? Thanks Lorraine www.radleysofcork.bigpondhosting.com .
Although I don't have Lyons in my family I thought that I'd just add this in case anyone was researching the name in Cheshire or North Wales UK. My late Grandfather who was Irish ( Smith, Flynn, Gough,Coleman, O'Brien, ) in UK had a best friend called Joseph Lyons. . Joseph borrowed the money from my Grandfather to start a small business. He ended up with one of the largest Holiday Camp businesses in UK. The Lyons Holiday Camp in Rhyl , North Wales was one of the largest in it's kind in UK after WW2. I do remember as a child in the 1950's going to visit them when some of them lived in 'Romany' caravans, I was excited by this as a small child. Some of the family still live here in North Wales and the camp is now re-vampt as a caravan park. Hope this might help someone. PS My Grandfather, unlike this pal, ended up 'broke', too many trips to Ireland after the booze and the horses! Many thanks, Dave, I'm sure that some of the Richard and Garrett Barrys(which appear strong family names) and maybe even the Thomases (of the Barrys) could be mine and but I can't yet make the definitive link. Hi there, I was wondering if anyone out there can help. Anne.
