Death notices of Irish immigrants in American, Canadian and Australian newspapers sometimes carried the notation "Cork papers please copy". The reverse was also true and in Irish papers can be found variants of the phrase "American [or Australian, etc.] papers please copy." The Irish press all subscribed to various foreign papers and would use them for a source of news stories that may be of interest. It was a common practice to reprint death notices as requested. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Dennis Ahern | Ireland Newspaper Abstracts Acton, Massachusetts | http://www.IrelandOldNews.com - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Hi I have a few newbie questions? My great grandparents, John and Mary MacDonald, moved from County Cork to Wisbech, Cambridgeshire between 1883 and 1887. I'm unable to find them on the LDS website. Am I correct in assuming that there are no BMD records for Ireland online? How do I find their marriage or even confirm that they are from County Cork? Hopefully in a few months time I should be able to get to a FHC, but until then I was hopeing to find some records online? Otherwise you must look for the newspaper on microfilm in some Library. >From The Cork Examiner, 7 June 1879 - QUEENSTOWN TOWN COMMISSIONERS.--The usual weekly meeting of the Road Committee took place yesterday, Sir George Milore in the chair. Others present--Messrs. R. O'Driscoll, Thomas O'Reilly and G. B. Dawson. After the usual minutes of the last meeting were read and the necessary cheques for the week's expenses passed, a letter was read from the Local Government Board, accompanied by the petition lately sent by some of the ratepayers against the commissioners taking the water supply of the town into their own hands. The matter was referred to the monthly meeting on Monday, as well as a letter received on the drainage of the graveyard. A letter was also read from Mr. J. C. Newsom, of Cork, Secretary to the Humane Society, asking, in case the society erected a drinking fountain for the people, would the commissioners guarantee a constant supply of water. This was also referred to the meeting of Monday. --Adjourned. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Dennis Ahern | Ireland Newspaper Abstracts Acton, Massachusetts | http://www.IrelandOldNews.com - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

>From The Irish Times, 6 December 1922 - COUNTY CORK ARRESTS BY NATIONAL TROOPS. A Mission tent at the gate of the parish church, Youghal, was broken into on Monday night, and some money and religious objects were taken, the latter being thrown around. National troops operating in the West Water road on Monday evening captured Patrick O'Reilly and M. Fitzgerald, two prominent local leaders, near Clashmore. Other bodies of national troops operating in East Cork effected further important captures yesterday in the neighbourhood of Ladybridge, including William O'Connell, J. M.
