Is there parish records online that can be accessed for Cork not sure which town as yet, as i need to look for a Marriage of Daniel Harrington & Ellen Sullivan he was born abt 1801 & then need to look for Baptism of their children Catherine b abt 1827 & Ellen b abt 1832 & possible other children who may have died in between, it know they are in Bristol by Oct 1837 where their son James is born then by 1851 in London. I also have a Dennis McCarthy b abt 1805 is there a way of finding out where he may have come from he marries a Johannah Martin, in Clerkenwell London 1828 but the records don't give parents, any help as i am new to the list & to the Irish research side Regards Janice _________________________________________________________________ Play your part in making history - Email Britain! http://www.emailbritain.co.uk/

Lorraine www.radleysofcork.bigpondhosting.com asked: >Could anyone tell me where I could obtain criminal trial info. or >newspaper info regarding same, in Cork. Late 1800s.Thank You. If you are searching for information on someone transported to Australia, check the National Archives of Ireland transportation database to get the date of the trial and then look in newspapers of that locale and date for details. If it was a homicide or manslaughter also look for reports of an inquest. Most court cases, both civil and criminal, would have been reported in detail in The Cork Examiner, but if the case was lurid enough, or otherwise of interest, it could be reported in the Dublin or Belfast papers or even The Times (of London), the latter being searchable online at some Libraries and archives or look for Palmer's Index to The Times (1790-1905) on a CD-ROM. See: http://www.nationalarchives.ie/topics/transportation/search01.html National Archives Database of Transported Felons http://www.webone.com.au/~nickred/newspaper/index.html Nick Reddan's Irish Newspaper Abstracts http://www.IrelandOldNews.com Ireland Old News Abstracts http://www.nli.ie/newsplan/default.htm Newspapers at the National Library in Dublin
AS to reserching your family Mc/Mac Donalds in Ireland you best off with going to FHC/library for info and getting films. Knowing the town land etc. will help you in searching thru the films and then sending for copies if you want. Films are stil easy to rent but check first to see if they have them on file. As to the BMD site it is mainly England only! Tho there are many Irish who went to England to live or to stay before they could come to USA during famines ( as in my family case) Many stayed on and raised their families there and you just might find ancestor. It will depend on what year you are looking for as not all counites and years, are on the BMD line as yet. Middlesex has little info so far as compared to other counties. I was lucky tho as I found my GGG parents both born n Cork in the BMD when they died, also found grand aunt and uncle as to marriage and deaths. Remember to tho there may have been children of yur ancestors they may NOT have registered the birth, many of the Irish never did since they didn' trust the English records. Good luck!

Hi Carl, I have a Callaghan McCarthy that I don't know his parents names. The 1900 US census has him coming to this country in 1839. He lived in Boston, and his occupation was given as being a furniture dealer. I believe he had one brother, Maurice, because he was buried in one of the graves that Callaghan owned. He and his wife Elizabeth (O'Brien) had 12 children.. Any connections? Beverly Weymouth, MA.

My McCarthys and Piggots (Picket) were from Curraghue, Fermoy in County Cork. I'm trying to find the generation before Edmond McCarthy, b about 1840. His father was Edmond and mother Bridget Piggot. Both from townlands outside Fermoy. Male children were Edmond, John, William and Callaghan; all left Ireland for the US and were first living in Lynn, MA, then a couple in Whitman, MA. Any takers on those names? Good Evening, I am researching my grandmother's family from Ireland. Her father was Patrick DESMOND born in Canada in the 1840's. His father was Dennis DESMOND born about 1820 in Ireland. I do not know much about this family. My grandmother was left an orphan when she was 4 years old. Dennis DESMOND was married to Margarette ?. They had three children born in Canada. Patrick, Ellen, and little Margarette. By 1850 they were in Cincinnati, Ohio. Dennis and Patrick were blacksmiths. Dennis was living in the Little Sisters of the Poor when he was in his 70's. Records from them gave his parents names as Patrick DESMOND and Ellen or Helen O'DONNELL. The family is buried in St.Joseph Cemetery. I have found other DESMONDS buried there from County Cork. I imagine that's where Dennis was from. Anyone else researching this family? Thanks for any help. Janet
