General Patrick RONAYNE Cleburne during American Civil War See website > www.radleysofcork.bigpondhosting.com > Lorraine > Yes. If you're interested in the Ronaynes I will be happy to e-mail you one or both of Frederick W. Knight, /Notes on the Family of Ronayne or Ronan of Counties Cork and Waterford/ that appeared in the /Journal/ of the Cork Historical and Archaeological Society 1916 and 1917. Also, a personal history of Edmond Ronayne, /Ronayne's Reminiscences: A History of His Life and Renunciation of Romanism and Freemasonry/ (Chicago: Free Methodist Publishing House, 1899). The /Notes/ contain nothing to offend anyone, /Reminiscences/, on the other hand contains a great deal to offend almost everyone; however, Edmond was born in 1832, lived in Killeagh during the famine (his entire family died around him), he survived "the fever" that killed so many, went on to get an education, founded schools in Ireland, then in Quebec and finally in Chicago (he was burned out by the Chicago fire). It's an interesting tale if you can skip around or just ignore the "...renunciation of Romanism and Freemasonry..." parts. Note that both are large PDF files (> 1M). If you're interested in Cleburne, I can highly recommend Mauriel Phillips Joslyn, /A Meteor Shining Brightly: Essays on Maj. Gen. Patrick R. Cleburne/ (Milledgeville, Georgia: Terrell House Publishing, 1999) ISBN 0-9662903-0-5. Also Craig L. Symonds /Stonewall of the West: Patrick Cleburne & the Civil War/ (Lawrence, Kansas: University Press of Kansas, 1997) ISBN 0-7006-0/20-6.

    1. [COUNTYCORK] MacCabe & Searls Families in Bandon
    2. Dave and Nancy
    3. My grandfather, William James MacCabe left County Cork for New York in 1895. He was one of 13 children of Thomas MacCabe (1845-1929) and Annie Searls (1846-1927) of Bandon, County Cork. Thomas and Annie were married in 1866 at Ballymodan. Thomas was a shopkeeper, auctioneer, insurance agent, emigration agent, and a leading citizen of Bandon. For a number of years he also had a shop on the Grand Parade in Cork City. Thomas was the child of Isaac MacCabe (1808-1892) and Catherine Jones (1814-1879) who were married in Midleton in 1836. Isaac was the son of Isaac McCabe (ca.1780-1810) and Ann FITZGERALD of Ballymodan, Bandon. Annie was the daughter of Richard Searls (1805-1853) and Elizabeth Lee of Bandon who were married at Kilbrogan in 1835. I am interested in sharing information on these families with near and distant cousins. Good luck in the eternal quest for ancestors. Best wishes, David MacCabe Austin, Texas USA

    2. John Stout in 1871 and 1881 census was my great-great-great-grandfather. He was one of the early pioneers farmers in Boyne, (just south of Milton, ON) in Halton County, and was married to Grace Sheridan who I believe was from County Down in Ireland. Still trying to find their marriage record in the early Ontario record. Probably would have been from 1835 or 1836 as their first born was 1836. I am surprised that you did not find John Stout in the 1852 census. He should be there although over the years ... like 1901 the Stout name was mistranscribed as Stoat and has sometimes also been transcribed as Stoutt. You would not be related to any Haggertys from Stirling, ON, would you? Dunmanaway, County Cork was recorded as his place of birth in his burial record at Bowes Cemetery, on Hwy 25 South of Milton. Where is Drimoleague parish in Cork? I also see that he died in 1883 and there is an age discrepancy--said to be 84 at time of death. Too bad he wasn't living in 1901 as that would give his year of immigration.
