    3. Peggy - I agree totally. I've thought about the same thing. Just volunteering to do anything to get the records in west Co Cork available to the world. While doing research in Dublin over the years, I've accumulated almost 100 pages of BMD info and put it in one document. Although I remain concentrated on the area around Skibbereen and Baltimore, there are some entries for folks west of there - especially Minihanes. Here's the link to this document: www.igp-web.com/IGPArchives go to Cork then to Church records then to Information on various surnames Hopefully you will find some helpful information. Please let me know if you make any connections. Barbara in St. Louis, Missouri USA On Thu, Jul 16, 2009 at 1:45 AM, Peggy <pegleg2@bigpond.net.au> wrote: > Thanks Barbara! 3. Peggy - I have many Minihanes in my family tree. However, there are from around Skibbereen and Baltimore - a little east of where you're looking. If we go way back, of course all these Minihanes would be related - but there's no way of going back 300-400 years. Most of the Minihanes from west of Skibbereen seem to be from the Schull and Goleen areas. John Coakley was the informant on the D.C. of Mary Cronin Leary, 1876, wife of John Leary, Dairyman; Elizabeth Minihane was a witness at the marriage of Mary and John in 1864. Elizabeth was the daughter of Cornelius Minihane/Julia Coakley b: 1848. Any leads would be much appreciated. Peggy

Am as far back as 1840-50 as known birth dates - believed to have been in Mitchelstown.....have info on them in Australia. Oh....the Irish research has simply been a "dead end", hence I occasionally put the names on the List to see is some newcomer might have a connection or know something of which I haven't already been aware. 3. Hi all Given that Mitchelstown seems to be 'in the news' lately thought I may as well throw my own Mitchelstown ancestors into the melting pot. William O'BRIEN married Mary HEDDERMAN at Mitchelstown in 1830 and at least six of their children emigrated to Australia. The oldest son of William & Mary, also William, married Ellen MANNIX at West Maitland in 1857. The MANNIX Family also came to Australia from Mitchelstown (there is reportedly a connection to the great Daniel MANNIX). Look forward to hearing from anyone connected or interested. Regards Pete

    3. Since we are talking about Mitchelstown, I have another question. Is there a logical place in Australia to look for an emigrant from Mitchelstown? Reason I ask is that my grandmother's sister supposedly emigrated to Australia from there. I have a possible name but no idea how to get started in Australia. My grandmother came to the US from Mitchelstown in 1899. She told us she did that because her sister had already gone to Australia and there was nothing left in Ireland. I'd guess her sister left not too long before 1899, but don't have any date. I think my grandmother came to the US to join a cousin in NYC. That cousin immigrated to the US from Ireland in 1895, if I have the right person for that cousin. My grandmother was Kate (Catherine Norris). Her parents, I believe, were Patrick Norris and Ann Baily. Her cousin in NYC, I believe, was Nellie Condon, b. ca. 1877. The sister most likely to have gone to Australia was Ellen Norris, b. 1871.
