Author: ronjaqi Surnames: Coulson/Coulston Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.coulson/455.4.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi there, I have history on a Coulson family originating in Terrenew, Dungannon, County Tyrone, N.Ireland. My grandfather Robert was born there in 1875; his father was a John b. 1841; his grandfather was also John b. 1789 d. 1875. I will attach a photo of John b. 1841 with his wife Clara and their first two children (Elizabeth and Louisa). The family moved to Cambuslang, Scotland in the late 80'. The sons were David, William, Robert, Charles. There was another Coulson family living in the same area whose head of household was David. I will attach other photos of Coulson men and hope it may be of assistance to you. My late father was also John Coulson. In Ireland the name was spelled Coulston - the letter "t" being dropped after leaving N.Ireland. Jackie PS Sorry, can't see which photos I've sent - I have quite a few of different generations; so if you are interested in more I can email if you provide address. Coulson who served in the Civil War with I believe his brother William E. Coulson. Their father's name was John Coulson. William E. Coulson lived with his family in Ritchie County, WVa., later they moved to Gallia County, Ohio. There is also a rumor that William E. Coulson had two families, one in a county north of Gallia. According to the 1880 census, his parents were born in Ireland. He was married to Elizabeth Morehead or Morehouse (not sure which, I've seen both). He had a son William E. and possibly a son named John, but I have no clue if he had any other children. Hope this helps you more. If you come up with any more information, let me know. I believe William E. Coulson had a brother, John E. or John A. who joined the army with William E. in Wheeling to fight in the Civil War. This picture may also be of him. I don't know of his whereabouts, but a John Coulson owned land in the Marietta area of Ohio, but that may have also been their father. Author: pgcoulson1 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.coulson/455.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: The first picture may possibly be John Coulson. He looks a lot like the Coulson men in my husband's family and looks a lot like a picture of his grandfather, Harry (I think is his name) My husband's father was Oscar Matthew. He's got to be a relative. If that is John Coulson, the picture has to have been taken in the mid 1800's. Does anyone know when it was taken? If you have more post them. Do you know anything about an a Sarah Edwards? We think she was the mother of the wife of William E. Coulson, but we are unsure. She is possibly an American Indian, either Shawnee or Cherokee. At least none that I can i.d. with 100% certainty. Didn't see any of Virgie, either. Sadly, most of the photos are not identified and I'm having to rely on people who were children at the time these photos were taken...and sometimes relying on their memory of who they were told were in the photos. If I ever happen to come across any of Charlie or Virgie from children/grandchildren of my grandmother's brothers and sisters, I'll be sure to send you a copy. Meanwhile, happy hunting!
