Hi Everyone, I am seeking information of the parents and siblings of my G G father John COULSON b 1835 at Middlesex. In the 1881 British Census at Islington, London he was described as a Flute Maker and lived at 17 Edward Square, Islington. His wife was Elizabeth, whose maiden name I do not know and she died aged 93 on 16th Feb 1929 and was buried at Islington Cemetery, East Finchley, London. Any help in this quest will be most welcome. Dear Gerry Coulson - with copy to the Coulson rootsweb list This is (1) a long shot and (2) a reaction to your rootsweb message on Harry Coulson. There was a plaint submitted to the high court in Albany, (upstate) New York shortly after 1837. The plaint may have involved the disputed will of Thomas Coulson who died August 6, 1837 in the Albany area. The wife or widow of the deceased appears to have been named Jane. Litigants in the case were two children of the deceased, being Thomas Coulson (jr) whose may himself have been a lawyer and who was probably married to a lady called Mary Jane, and Eleanor (or Elinor) Coulson who was born December 29, 1812 and would die September 1, 1862, having first married George Hillman 1809 - 1866 and by him had five recorded children. (Alas, I have no details for the marriage ceremony: I would speculate that the marriage most likely took place at Albany between 1830 and 1842.) I do not know Ontario and do not have ready access to a Canadian atlas, but I do remember driving from Toronto to Ohio via upstate New York in the space of a few hours. I am therefore daring to wonder if there might be any kinship connection between your grandfather, Harry Coulson 1876 - 1965, and the Coulsons who by marriage are connected to my Hillman family (some of whom had moved to Albany from Ireland around 1824). I am trying to find out more about John H A Coulson, born Tynemouth, England in 1906. His parents were: Hubert Arthur Blenkinsopp Coulson 1878 - >1948 Constance Jane Dorothy Tayler 1868 - 1948 (my great x 2 aunt) He had no brothers and just one sister who married late and died without issue in an auto accident in 1970. I believe he has (at least) a son, Nick Coulson, who was spotted at a wedding around 1970, at which time Nick was judged, by his distant cousin by marriage (and my informant) to be aged about 20. I am interested both to find out firmer information on the wife and descendants of this John H A Coulson, and to establish the family connection back to the gentry family of north east England with which they are clearly connected. Here's what I think I know (all pretty vague & uncorroborated): She was born Baltimore, MD She died New Orleans, LA Some time round 1840 she married George Hillman and by him had five children, all, we think, born in N.O.. >From some very incomplete litigation records I think she probably had a brother called Thomas and a father called Thomas. I think brother Thomas may have been a lawyer who remained up north (possibly Albany, NY, or possibly moving west to IL area) when she (presumably with her husband) moved to Louisiana.
