Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.co.uk/mbexec/msg/5538/XIQ.2ACIB/191.1.1 Message Board Post: Hi Thomas Thanks for your reply. One or two of the names you have mentioned i recognize as Coulson "family" names (from my line anyway). The Line of the family i initially mentioned started in Maxstoke/Kingsbury/Lea Marston area of Warwickshire.Moving to Birmingham somewhere between 1866/1869. Prior to the the move to the city and after. And before Henry's marriage to Sarah Ann Siddons in 1878.Henry lived with his parents Ann (born 1826)and William Coulson (born 1833).He lived with the following brothers and sisters as well William (1859) Vertice A (1866) John T (1864) Emma (1853) Charlotte 1861 and Alice (1869) who was the first born in Aston.Henry himself was born in (1855). By the 1881 Census Henry and Sarah had the first two of their 8 children.Alice (1881) and Walter Henry (1879). Henry's mom Ann and his sisters Alice, Annie(Veritce i think),and brothers John T and William where living next door.In the St Annes District of Duddeston. His dad William had died by then. By the census of 1891 i have lost track (at the moment) of Henry's brothers and sisters. But Henry and Sarah Ann had 6 kids by now.By 1901 they had the 8 children i mentioned in my first posting ( i know i mentioned 7,i forgot Annie who came after Lizzie). Do you fit into this line of the family somewhere ?? Regards Stephen White

Also, I'm not a Coulson researcher, but am looking for information about the husband of Jane Coulson, d/o Jacob and maybe sister to your Priscilla. According to info I found on World Connect parents of Jane were Jacob Coulson (b: 1754 in , Lancaster, PA) and Elizabeth Jennings (b: ABT 1760) of Carroll, Virginia. (No sources given and unverified.) This Jane m. John Carlon/Carlin 4 Feb 1867 in Grayson, VA. and they had at least one child, Robert b. ca 1832. It's the Carlon/Carlin's I'm tracing, and am writing on the off-chance you may have run across something that would help. Joanne

Did he happen to marry a woman by the name of Bertha or Alzora Hartford. I have children listed in Bertha's will as beneficiaries. Children were: Charles,Harry and Margaret I believe. From what I can see, either something happened to Bertha and the children were left orphaned or Bertha was disowned. She is not listed in any of her siblings obits or her parents however these Coulson children are listed in the will as well as we do have a picture with Bertha and the rest of the family in it.

Maybe William named his children after his parents. Being so young and probably very homesick, this might be what he did. How long did he serve before he was freed? Funny thing but my Mother's brother was William Coulson, as were others over generations back. Bye now and take care, Elizabeth.

He was a convict sentenced to 7 years transportation to Van Dieman's Land for stealing a firearm from a dwelling. His trial was held at Ipswich,Suffolk, England on 15 Feb.1832. William sailed from Portsmouth,England on 7 May 1832 on the Ship:"LORD WILLIAM BENTICK{2} arriving in Van Dieman's Land 28 Aug.1832 after 113 days at sea. William was described as 5ft.5inches tall, heavily tattooed arms and hands and 17 years of age. His Hulk report was "Good" and he was "Single". His Trade was as a bread and biscuit baker. He married in Tasmania in 1847 His wife, Ellen Malone formerly Riley was also a convict. Ellen was particularly interesting as her record states she had a brown complexion and black hair, and although she was sentenced for transportation while living in Ireland, her birth place was said to be the West Indies. Ellen was born about 1825.
