She died in 1968. I met Aunt Myrtle Redmond in 1972. My grandparents, Hugh and Grace Harper moved to Arizona in 1920. Virgie Minton married William W Coulson. Virgie's mother was Ann Cann, b. South Carolina, and married Alphred Joseph Minton. I would like to find out who was Ann Cann's father and mother. I know that the Center Point Baptist Church, founded by Sylvanus Minton, is still in Hazen, Craighead County, Arkansas! Those Coulson girls had alot of fun together and alot of life in their personalities! Please reply, would like to exchange info. Author: mlhird Surnames: Coulson, Hird, Shepherd Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.coulson/419/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I'm seeking descendants of Elizabeth. I think her parents are Henry Coulson b. 1805 Hornby, Linc and Martha ? b.1805 Claxby, Linc. This implies that her siblings include Mary b.1827, George b.1837,Linc, Henry b.1839 Sheffield,Ykshire and William b.1843 Barton, Linc. I know that she married in 1862 to Henry Hird b.1843 Wadingham. Only child (that I know) - Martha b.1862 Grimsby, Linc. Martha worked as a teacher and was unmarried in 1901 (living Gt Grimsby, Linc with Henry) In 1871, Martha was visiting Claxby, Linc. Staying with Frederick Shepherd (b.1805 Claxby), Mary Shepherd (b.1808 Linc) and their son George (b.1845 Claxby). I assume these are relations to Elizabeth but unsure how. Elizabeth died in 1890 4Q Vol 7a/392 Caistor, Linc. I'm interested in finding any descendants of Elizabeth and Henry Hird. I have lots of Hird info to share and would love to find some missing cousins. Any help greatly appreciated. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Fern (Oman) Coulson Posted: Monday, Mar 05, 2007 - 04:12:44 pm PST COLUMBIA BASIN HERALD, MOSES LAKE, WASHINGTON STATE Fern (Oman) Coulson, 91, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2007. She was born in Price, Utah, on Feb. 18, 1916, to Earl and Mabel (Larsen) Oman. At the age of 12, her family moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, where she later met and married Chuck Larsen. From that union a daughter, Earlene was born. In 1941, she married Harry Coulson in Portland, Ore. From that union Lorraine and Ronald Coulson were born. In 1948 the Coulson family moved to Hermiston, Ore., and six years later they relocated to Moses Lake. As a family they owned and operated the state park concessions and taco stand at the city park. Fern also worked for the Moses Lake School District in the cafeteria for 23 years. She enjoyed this position especially because it allowed her to be close to her children. Shortly after celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary, Harry Coulson passed away in 1991. Fern and her daughter, Lorraine, moved to East Wenatchee in 1998 where they shared a home together until her passing. Fern's family was the center of her world. She was a loving, kind, caring mother to her children and always welcomed her grandchildren with open arms and smiles. One of her greatest loves was her garden and roses in which she and her husband would tirelessly and meticulessly tend to. She believed in hard work and family values. Fern, also had a great love for her pets and a tendency to care for animals in need. She was a faithful, lifelong member of her church. Fern will be missed dearly by her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and 9 siblings. She is survived by her daughter, Earlene Ray; Lorraine Krueger and her son, Ron Coulson; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchilden and five great-great-grandchildren. A celebration of Fern's life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 5, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in East Wenatchee. Fern will be laid to rest next to her husband, Harry in Pioneer Memorial Gardens in Moses Lake at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, March 5. Arrangements are under the care of Betts Funeral Service, Wenatchee. I find the Durham on-line very helpful at times. I did find a Thomas Coulson married a Mary Bell on 14 August 1819 in Houghton-le-Spring. Not sure if it's your couple. For Henry & Elizabeth Gowland, I found these children, Mary Ann, Elizabeth, Jane, Margaret, John Henry, Bell. You probably already have these all. The Church Elizabeth was baptised in is the same one my Dad's ancestor was born in. Small world. Good luck with the rest of your search.

On the 1851 Census with her husband Henry Gowland, it mentioned she was born in West Rainton, Durham. On the Durham on-line site there is a Baptism as follows:- Houghton-le-Spring St. Michaels & All Angels Church. Baptised 2 April 1820 Elizabeth Coulson, daughter of Thomas Coulson & Mary, abode West Rainton. This sounds very much like your Elizabeth. Hope this helps. Bye now and take care, Elizabeth.
