    3. Kay, Kentucky's Windwalker quotes some ancestor who said he was proud of his New England origins. In one of the biographies of Harvey Couch William Couch (son of Drury--grandson of Ole Thomas Couch of Enoree, SC) is quoted as saying his folks came from New England and were in Virginia by 1700. Edna Symanski of Florida who is an expert on the Conneticut Couches notes some CT Couches who moved to the South. However, I just do not know. General Darius N. Couch was indeed from the CT Couches and he is well documented. Right Now, the earliest Couch I can document (no absolute proof) in what is our line is Thommas Couch Sr and Thomas Couch JR who were in what is now Lunenburg County, VA (originally Brunswick Co, VA). Thomas Sr and Elizabeth Couch had known and projected sons named (Mathew-from Bristol Parish Register b 1725); Thomas Couch Jr who was b in VA 1720 the same year Thomas Sr got his letters of patents on 566 acres just west of the county seat of Lunenburg County, VA on Couches creek; William who was a proven brother of Thomas, James. Other projected possibilitis as sons included: John and Edward. We believe that sons Thomas Couch Jr; William Couch and James Couch moved down into Orange County, NC and are on early land maps there as among the first settlers of Orange County, NC. Then Thomas Jr and James moved to Spartanburg County, South Carolina. This line of thinking is supported by census data, land records, and tax lists as well as availabble maps. IT is certainly reasonable but not every item is proven beyond possible doubt. Many of the Group 5 Couch Dna project individuals can easily be traced to this Thomas and Elizabeth of Lunenburg County, VA. But, Just where did Thomas Come from. I have been making a list of every know Southern Couch (not new England, N.J., nor Conneticut Couches) I have seen and I have a least a dozen or more who are recorded in America prior to 1700. I know my list is not exaustive but I if we can identify all the Virginia Couches perhaps we can logically find out who were the parents of Thomas Couch Sr of Lunenburg Co, VA. The CT Couches have dozens of Thomas Couches across several generations. Any ideas of how to proceed? Robert H.
