    1. [COUCH] Martin Couch KY Line
    2. I need to express concern over data found on the web regarding the Martin Couch line in KY. It is very frustrating to try and get anything done in helping others with their families. I believe the following is the primary reason. In comparing two charts (links below) commonly used by KY researchers, I find the following: Martin Couch b. 1875 Ashe Co. NC, m. Sarah Hall b. 1785 VA abt. 1804. Their first son was Joseph b. 1805, NC. In 1808 Andrew was born in VA and the same year Elisah was born NC. These must be twins and their mother is surely in the Guiness Book of World records for time between their birth needed to travel to another state? So...they stayed in NC for birth of Eel in 1810 and then Thomas in 1812. By 1813 they returned to Perry Co. KY for birth of Ira and Nellie...twins again? Guess they just had to beat their own record!....Seems Nellie was born in Tennessee! Wow...Amazing! Well....these nomads just couldn't stay put long so by 1815 they went back to Virginia for birth of John. Home in Perry Co. KY was calling again by 1816 when son Charles was born. All that travel must have taken it's toll as next two sons Samuel and Levi were born 1820 and 1825. It is rumored however that Levi who lived in Wolfe Co. KY may have been adopted since his DEATH CERTIFICATE lists parents as John Couch and Mary Jones?? It is also believed that Martin and Sarah had just 4 children.....or 11........or 16! Reckon we can take our pick. Afterall, everyone knows ALL the Couches in KY come from Martin :-/ Ok, now I've had my fun with the sarcasm. The couchgenweb chart for Martin has TWELVE researchers listed. We're all thankful to Bill for his willingness to make space and try to put these people together to work on their common families. The chart posted is what these families have submitted and the data at the Perry Co. Genweb site is the work of one person. As you can see there are major problems here and proper attention is long overdue. Who is responsible for straightening this out? Come on KY!...let's see some shared interest and ideas for getting this fixed! Now I can enjoy a week of vacation :-) Kathleen Couch Latshaw (Kathy) Kentucky Couch Kin http://swapasource.com http://www.rootsweb.com/~kyperry/ (narrative form) http://www.couchgenweb.com/ 1-- Martin COUCH-17 (1785-1856) ,New River,Ashe Co.,North Carolina sp-Sarah (Sallie) HALL-110 (1785- ) ,,,Virginia 2-- Joseph COUCH-26 (1805-1898) ,New Rivers,Ashe Co.,North Carolina sp-Mary Ann STIDHAM-25 (1817- ) ,,,Virginia 2-- Andrew COUCH-4 (1808- ) ,,,Virginia sp-Ann-121 (1809- ) ,,,Kentucky 2-- Elisah COUCH-35 (1808- ) Ashe,North Carolina sp-Serena KILBURN-22 (1806- ) ,,,North Carolina sp-Cerena PENNINGTON-188 (1817- ) ,,,Virginia 2-- Eli "Eel" COUCH-29 (1810-1885) ,,,North Carolina sp-Mahala Sally SIZEMORE-30 (1814- ) ,Leslie,,Kentucky 2-- Thomas Alfred COUCH-117 (1812-1858) ,,Ashe Co.,North Carolina sp-Elizabeth CAMPBELL-116 (1814- ) ,,,Kentucky 2-- Sira or Ira COUCH-105 (1813-1911) ,,Perry Co.,Kentucky sp-Parminia "Nina" COMBS-19 (1821-1908) ,Hazard,Perry Co.,Kentucky 2-- Nellie COUCH-300 (1813- ) ,,Perry Co.,Kentucky sp-Lewis MILAM-301 (1796- ) 2-- John C. 3. what it amounts to is mis data, Wrong charts posted, with no source and no concern of whats listed for KY If it were a AR/Al/SC line they would be breaking backs to get it right Thats the bad thing of having one person who puts charts up and all go by them.. THEN you have to provide them proof.. Its BS ----- Original Message ----- From: <kathyl@sssnet.com> To: <COUCH-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, September 14, 2003 3:59 PM Subject: [COUCH] Martin Couch KY Line > I need to express concern over data found on the web regarding the Martin > Couch line in KY.
