    3. I got this message from FamilyTreeDNA today. Thought I would pass it along and see if anyone can make out what they are doing. --------------------------- To Couch group manager, a) Matching gift and more: after the launch of the General Fund, many of you e-mailed me and asked if it would be possible for contributions to be made in memory, or in honor of a specific person. Others asked if the entire General Fund could be named in memory of a specific person. Our answer is yes to both alternatives. We are adding a field in the ordering page in case you want to honor a specific person with your donation. And, in case you want your entire General Fund to be named after someone, please let me know, and I will create a specific Contribution page that will have the person's name. In conjuction with that, we are continuing our matching gift offer until the end of November;(www.familytreedna.com/contribution.html) b) mtDNA promotion: Responding to our customers' requests, we have decided to extend the promotion on the mtDNA tests and bundles to the end of November. Please make your participants or potential participants aware of this extension; (http://www.familytreedna.com/mtDNA_promo.asp) c) The same is valid fo our "Haplogroup Challenge", which will also be offered for $50 until the end of November: if we are wrong in our prediction of any testee's Haplogroup, we will test until we have the correct Haplogroup assigned; a) Our newest updated version of the Y-chromosome Haplogroup chart that was presented at our Conference is now for sale. It is a color coded wall chart. You can see it and order at the Haplogroup area of the personal pages; Thank you for your continued support! E-mail me any time! 3. Bill..........this is one from last newsletter from FTDNA that I sent you. Here's what I found on the website: <<For the month of October, Family Tree DNA will match any funds contributed to a General Fund, up to $200.00. The rules for these matching funds are: - up to $25.00 can be used per test kit from the matching funds - matching funds can only be applied to new test kits - matching funds must be used by 12/31/04, when they will expire>> They are extending this offer through November. It appears to me they've set up a means for others to contribute funds to be used, like a type of scholarship fund for new test participants. If they're matching up to $200, it would be excellent to take advantage of. Being the administrator, you'd have to get some advice on how to best use it in recruiting "new" participants.....sorting group needs....biggest questions, etc. Since FTDNA is offering the option for "memorial" contribution, perhaps that would be a good way to divide the funds? If I were to contribute, I'd definitely want to designate for KY participants since we know there is a real shortage of participation there. 3. Thanks Kathy, I would like to hear more from other Couch Researchers, on this. What is your opinion on This. They have extended it through November. I did not hear anything from any of you the last time I posted it. but we did pick up a couple more that are doing the DNA. If some of you who would like to know how some of the Stray Couch line connect back to other couches. this would be a way to work together and get a test done If we could get a living Male Couch from one of these lines that has not been tested. Even the girls could get involved this way. I see some of the other projects are really getting involved with this DNA and is real excited about it. but Our Couch line seem to have lost interest. Please let me know your thoughts on this even if you are against it.
