Published in the Winston-Salem Journal May 10, 2004. Grace Ruby Couch ELKIN - Mrs. Grace Ruby Couch, 80, of Little Arcadia Drive passed away Monday, May 12, 2003, at Forsyth Medical Center. Mrs. Couch was born March 30, 1923, in Surry County to Flirdy Jones and Carrie Ingool Settle. Mrs. Couch was a homemaker and was a longtime member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, her husband, Wilburn Sexton Couch; four brothers, Welborn Settle, Millard Settle, Brady Settle and Garvie Settle; and a sister, Lula Harpe, preceded her in death. Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Randall Gray Couch and his wife, Teresa, of Jonesville and Eddie Joe Couch of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Debbie Tenery and her husband, Sam, of Mocksville; a brother and sister-in-law, George Settle and his wife, Christine, of Tobaccoville; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Beulah Rogers of Siler City and Lucille Pardue and her husband, Bill, of Elkin; six grandchildren, Carrie Ratledge and her husband, Brad, Josh Tenery and his wife, Mandy, Sarah Couch, Jodie Couch, Bradley Sparks and Shannon Brooks and her husband, Bobby; two great-grandchildren, Jake and Alex Ratledge; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service for Mrs. Couch will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 15, 2003, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church by the Rev. Everett Carter and Dr. Don Stephens. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 this evening at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. Mrs. Couch will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Bus Ministry or to the American Cancer Society.
