Bill, I too am most proud of the information we gleaned from the DNA testing and especially getting matched up with other Group 5 members. I do not understand where you are getting that only 4 matched up with Ole Thomas of Virginia. I want to take upgrade to the 25 marker test but I really do not know how to do so. I looked over the data we have but could not find a link requesting another test. Please help me find this and I shall upgrade to a 25 marker test post-haste. The knowledge that you and others descending from Benjamin, Danny (William), Dr Richard Couch of Tulsa, Robert Couch and Kathryn Hopkins of TN(Joseph Elijah), Robert Couch of Birmingham (Drury), Ron Couch of Kentucky (John Couch), John Couch & Mary Prather of SC and all the other Group 5 members (even 12 count) share a common ancestor with me. It has led me to believe more than ever that one of our prime ancestors are Thomas & Elizabeth of Brunswick Co, VA (Couch's Creek). Their son, Ole Thomas, who went first to Orange County, NC, then to Spartanburg and Greenville County, SC and eventually his John Couch Sr and his sons John Jr and Thomas (who married Elvie Lynch) and wound up in Madison County, AL. This is certainly greater proof than I had a year ago and I am thrilled with the DNA data. We are not there yet but we are a bit closer than previously. I shall devote 2004 trying to get a better fit for all Group 5 members. Robert H. I am counting the master at the top as to what I think The Thomas who was married to Elizabeth was. Now only 4 have a 25/25 match with the Master I still beleive all of group 5 will connect back to that Thomas. I will contact you off list on your 25 marker test Bill. ----- Original Message ----- From: Couch, Robert H. <rcouchauburn@mindspring.com> To: <COUCH-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, January 06, 2004 2:10 PM Subject: Re: [COUCH] Group5 DNA > Bill, > > I too am most proud of the information we gleaned from the DNA testing and > especially getting matched up with other Group 5 members. Forgot to mention FTDNA now has the test out to a 37 Y marker test. But like our group 5 with 14 members in the same family Group, If we all did not extend to a 37 marker I doubt if it would do much good, But the ones with a 37/37 match has a 50/50 chance of a common ancestor in 4 generation. I would like to ask each of you to send me your opinion on this. I am willing to throw another 100 dollars away if anyone else is. Robert H. Couch said he was going to go to 25 and we have another on at the lab now who should come back matched to Group 5 and they have a 25 marker test. I had another kit ordered just before christmas and they said it would be after christmas when they send it in but I think it will also be in group 5. and it is a 25 marker test. We can see how they match up with the rest of us and see if there is any more suprises.<grin> Bill Couch.
