Richard, This possibility of finding our English common ancstor for all us Group 5 members is really exciting. What I know is: 1. A Thomas Couch Sr received land patents recorded in Williamsburg in 1720. At the time he received this land (566 acres on Pine Lick Branch now Couches Creek in what is now Lunenburg Co, VA) the land was probably in Prince George County, VA and in 1732 became Brunswick County, VA, and Lunenburg County, VA in 1746. 2. Thomas Couch Jr was born either 1710 or 1720 in VA. 3. Thomas Couch Sr sold Thomas Couch Jr land in what is now Lunenburg Co, VA in 1736. 4. Along with Thomas Couch Sr and Jr were a Matthew Couch born to Thomas and Elizabeth Couch in Bristol Parish, (probably Prince George Co, VA); William Couch (a proven brother of Thomas); James Couch, John Couch and Edward Couch. All were in what is now Lunenburg Co, VA but I am not sure of the relationship of all ot these Couches. Yet, most likely reltated. Thus, if Thomas Couch Jr was born in 1720 then his father Thomas Couch Sr would have been born on or before 1700. These folks seem to have been in VA before the 1740s but could have been related in some way to the Captain John Couch. Let us see if we can explore this hypothesis in depth. Several of the Group 5 DNA Couch folks seem to have been related to those in Lunenburg County, VA. Myself, Danny Couch, Robert Couch and Kathryn Hopkins, Robert Murphy Couch etc. The key I believe may just be with this Captain John Couch of England. Let us join forces to see if this is our common ancestor. As you will recall, those taking the 25 marker DNA test and matching will have a common ancestor withing 7 generations. Marlin Hershel, Daniel C. Couch, Bill Couch, Roert Marion Couch, Richard Couch, Larry Parr, Robert Murphy, Robert Couch and his niece Kathryn Hopkins all have near perfect matches on the 25 marker DNA test. Thus, their common ancestor should be within seven generations. Not too far back. The Captain John Couch of England just might be our man. How can we examine this hypothesis further? Ellen just may be on to something. Robert H.
