Larry, In the 1790 census Mary is the wife of Ole Thomas Couch and mother of John Sr and Joseph who were mentionied in the 1776 will of Old Thomas Couch. John Couch Sr and mother Mary were administrators of that will. Some have speculated that Isaac, James and Benjamin were also sons of Ole Thomas but they were younger and not mentioned in his will. John Sr would have been about 45 at the time of the 1790 census so the second John may have been his son John Couch JR. Matthew Couch has been projected as a son of Thomas and Elizabeth Couch of Brunswick Co, VA (b 1725) and a brother of Ole Thomas. There was indeed records of a Matthew in Spratanburg Co, SC in 1790 (could have been Matthew JR). Since we have records of Thomas and Elizabeth in Brunswick Co, VA as early as 1720 then the 1740 date may be a bit late. Nonetheless, in a biography about the famous Harvey Couch (a Group 5 DNA match) it is reported that his ancestor William Couch (son of Drury and grandson of Ole Thomas and Mary) says his folks were in New England and then in Virginia by 1700. Windwalker also maintains that his ancestors may have been in New England early. In his history of the Conneticut Couch family, Vintron Myron Couch did not indicate any Couches that went South but that does not mean it did not happen. Eleanor S. of Florida knows of some of the Conneticut Couches who came south. In any event, I find your information most interesting. Thanks for sharing. Robert H. Hi, How is Ethel Templeton connected to the Couch family? Thanks, Bonnie -----Original Message----- From: Couch, Robert H.
