    1. Re: [COUCH] Montgomery Joseph Couch
    2. Couch, Robert H.
    3. Sam, John/Joseph "Montgomery Joe" Couch (surely brothers) were in Virginia, perhaps West VA, John Couch married in Orange Co, NC and then was in Ashe County, NC prior to move to Kentucky. Time frame 1760-1806. (Group 5 DNA member Ron Couch Ky) Not far from Ashe County, NC was Captain John and James Couch on the James river in Buckingham Co, VA. They were there in 1750s and later. Dr. Richard Couch's ancestors on which he has done a most credible job documenting John and James. (Group 5 DNA member Dr. Richard Couch). Thomas Sr, Thomas Jr, Matthew, William, James and perhaps a John and Edward Couch are along Couch's Creek in what is now Lunenburg Co, VA from 1720 until at least 1750. They next (at least Thomas Sr and JR, William and James) moved to Orange County, NC and were there from about 1750 until 1800. Then Thomas JR, James, and Matthew moved to Spartanburg County, SC aong the Enoree River there. This group remained in Laurens and Spartanburg County, SC from 1768 until after 1800 when several of the sons of Ole Thomas Couch moved northwest to Greenville Co, SC along banks of north fork of Saluda River (1798-1807). (Group 5 Dna members Danny Couch, Bill Couch, myself). John Couch who was perhaps born in (1770) and married Mary Prather in Orange County, NC also moved to South Carolina-Pendleton District, Pickins County, SC. Had son John Couch JR. (Group 5 DNA member Kenneth Ramsey). Now if DNA data is correct all the above Group 5 members have a common ancestor. Lunenburg Co, VA and Orange County, NC adjoin each other on NC-VA border. Although I have not calculated exact distances it seems that all 12 of these Couch folks in the four groups above lived first in Virginia and have been recorded there within a 200 mile radius from 1720 until 1806. There is evidence that at least three of the above 4 groups were at one time in Orange County, NC prior to moving on to Kentucky, South Carolina and elsewhere. Now our challenge is to connecting the individuals and groups. What is your thinking on this hypothesis? Robert H.
