Ellen, Correct me if I am wrong. Are brothers James and John Couch the Couch brothers who settled in Buckingham County, VA? If so this is your family and that of Dr. Richard Couch of Oklahoma. Richard Couch, who also descends from your James Couch, has DNA matching that of Ron Couch of Kentucky, Danny Couch of NC (whose ancestor is Lunenburg County's William Couch) and myself, we are all in the same family (as well as about ten others in DNA group 5. Was the father of your James and John the John Couch Sr you mentioned who was born before 1748 in Jamestown? I have read that John Sr may have had a title of Captain and others say that John Jr was also known as Captain. Since the Couch DNA Groop 5 has a commonm ancestor (and that common ancestor of those group 5 members who took the 25 marker DNA test is within seven generation of those members), we must search for that common ancestor tying all of us together. That common ancestor appears to be from Virginia. And we must identify him. I am suggesting the possibility that John Couch Sr of Jamestown (father of your James and John) may be the common ancestor of all those in the group 5 Couch DNA bunch. What more can you tell me about this John Couch Sr of Jamestown? This in no way interferes with nor questions your line from James. Thanks, Robert H. Couch ---------- >From: "Couch, Robert H. Since we are all confused on Couch relationships (at least I am), I want to add a note that might help us. James Couch ( abt 1739/abt 1821) had two sons that I want to reference. 1. John Couch born 1773 VA, died 1840 KY. 2. Daniel Couch born 1885 VA, died 1809 VA John had a daughter, Mary Ann Couch born 1803. Daniel had a son, James Daniel Couch born 1803. Mary Ann Couch married James Daniel Couch 28 Jul 1835. Also there is one instance where a wife of a Couch died and she then married the brother of her husband. There may be more examples but I don't recall them. Also long ago I made a mental note that the Couch had tunnel vision when it came to naming children. Just use the same names over and over and surely someone would answer. This may be a little harsh but it is also harsh trying to separate the names. If you read the WILLs of some of these men, you will agree. ellen
