    1. [COUCH] Couch info from Gordon Co GA
    2. Dianne
    3. Went to Gordon Co GA today and met with some potential cousins, and was very excited. He did the DNA test, and we'll send it off. He is a des of James (1818) & Martha Osborn (1815) Couch. Did you guys know that a lady has went through the papers on Gordon Co and gotten out the obits, of coarse no one is perfect, but hey at least she's trying. They are at the Calhoun-Gordon Co Public Library in alpha order in boxes for anyone to look thru. I spent $10. @25Cents a piece, and had a wonderful time. Also went to the deed office and the tax digest room. Now comes the time consuming job of sorting out one Couch family from another. I know there were at least two Couch families from there.... Are there any researchers or des on this list? Any help appreciated. di __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Protect your identity with Yahoo! 3. Diane, You gave me a great family lineup. Is there anyway that you could give me the name of the book where you found it? I cannot findit in completeness in the Barbour records and the DAR must have complete documentation and title page. I hope you don't mind too much answering my questions, but I cannot find it anywhere. Mary .

    1. [COUCH] Civil War Soldiers
    2. I have noticed som mail on Couch soildiers in the Civil War. Here is a site sent out by the Kim Komando Cool Site of the Day that may help many of you. I am reseaching both Couch and Bowie, and it has helped me a lot. Everette Bowie I know a lot of people who are interested in researching their family tree. It can get a little overwhelming. Where do you start? Should you buy expensive software? Should you pay to search a database that may or may not help you? If you're just beginning with putting together a family tree, today's site is full of links and information. Heck, even if you are genealogy pro, you might learn a thing or two. 2. Mary Rigdon
    3. Diane I decided to write to your Email and make it easier for the Couch L line.....Today, I found the numbers of the index to the Couch Barbor rolls. Everyone seem to be mentioned but Elijah Couch born in 1765. I then went to the catalog and ordered the "C" records of Barbor records. I hope I did the right thing...If not, I am going to have to hire you to find the rcords of Elijah that you sent me that he married Laura Platt. What do you think...did I order the right record? Iwould appreciate you advising me. I learned all of this in college (I thought) but this kind of thing was not mentioned. 3. On the Francis Marion Couch there was 3 or more in Alabama at the same time. The one Becky listed in the 4th may be Brothes and Sons of Thomas Sprigg Couch Francis Marion Couch b 1842 Alabama and William Charles Couch b 1839 Alabama This francis Marion was listed 1850 Census of Marshall co. Ala. as Francis M. 1860 Census of Marshall co. Ala. as Marion 17 yrs old 1880 Census of Marshall Co. Ala as 40 years old Some place I have him listed as a Major. You say your Francis Marion Couch was in the 4 and 10 Alabama Callvary he was born 1835 Alabama My Eli Couch from DeKalb Co. Alabama had a Francis Marion b 1836 born in Lincoln Co. Tennessee The James Couch and Isabell Thomas also had a Francis M. Couch born 1839 either in Alabama or Tennessee. > Bill, > > Betty Barnes Couch loaned me her book, Couches and Couch Connections which > she published in 1997l. > > I am finding all sorts of new stuff but have not yet obtained her sources. > She has several more children for John Couch Sr than I do and she too > maintains that they came into Huntsville from Tennesse. > > One interesting aspect of her book is that she has listings of hundreds of > English Couch names mostly from Devon County England. 3. BECKY, Thanks so much for the information on Francis Marion Couch. I am uncertain who William C. Couch was but surely they must be related. Francis Marion was a brother of my gg grandfather Meredith Jacob Couch who I have identified as in the 5th and 10th Alabama Calvary serving with General Roddey along the Tennessee Valley. In my book, One Alabama Couch Family<rcouch.home.mindspring.com> I describe the well documented civil war service of Cpl Jacob Meredith Couch Couch. Thanks so much for the information. I have been wanting to know about Francis Marion for some time. 1. Re: [COUCH] Immigrants to New England, 1700-1775. - Searching the archives
    2. Kathryn Hopkins
    3. Hi, You can always search the list archives. Here are 2 ways to search: Interactive Search ================== GoTo: http://searches2.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl In the "Name of List" field, enter COUCH-L Hit the "Submit Query" button. This will take you to the next page where there is a "Query" field. You can enter anything here, like the word "Immigrants" in this field and make sure the year 2003 is selected (or the year you would like to search). Hit the "Search" button. This will return emails posted to the COUCH list that contain the word(s) you searched on. So you can click on each one to see the original message. Threaded Search: ================ GoTo: http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index In the field labeled "Enter the name of the list you want:" enter COUCH (not COUCH-L) Hit the SUBMIT Query button. This returns a page of links, one for each month/year for the COUCH list. Click on one of the links and you can browse through all the messages. Hope this helps, Kathryn --- KAYCOUCH@aol.com wrote: > What was this? I missed the info? > > __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Protect your identity with Yahoo! 3. Diane..you are a real sweetheart...When I look at the Barbour Records I see nothing like you have, but you have the total record and I only have the Index. Would the index tend to leave some people out? I didn't find Elijah on any Barbour record. That is the trouble doing research so far away from where things happened. I guess I should send to Salt Lake for the total record so that I could film it for the DAR. Thanks again.
