There was a large article in the Atlanta Journal today on DNA being used to trace a persons national origins. Did the DNA company we used for the Couch DNA test do this type of tracing. If not does anyone know of a company that does? Thanks Larry

Pat, Joseph Couch, son Thomas Couch of South Carolina lived in Laurens Co, SC and died there in 1811. His son Joseph and other siblings moved first to Franklin County, Georgia and then to Bedford County, Tennesse. One son William Thomas Jefferson Couch was b 1783 and married Rhoda Patton in 1810. They had one son named Thomas R./M. Couch who was born Aaug 13, 1818 and supposed died Dec 26, 1821. There are several of the members of this Couch family who moved to Missouri. Several of these children of Willam Thomas Jefferson Couch were born between 1812 and 1830 including a daughter born in 1825. I suspect that some of this Couch family who went to Missouri were related to your Thomas Couch but I do not have a Thomas Couch b 1835 in TN. There is a Couch-Patton Cemetery near Wartrace Tennessee that is the final resting place for many of this Couch family. It is in a remote location and I visited it last year. I hope this may help. Good chance then the ones in Kansas 1870 are them? There is also Elizabeth, 1900 b. TN back in MO as follows: COUCH ELIZABETH C , (1900 US Census) MO, LINN, BENTON TWP, Age: 65, Female, wd, White, Born: TN 1834 Dovie Johns 36 dau. wd, b. 1864 MO Hattie 13 gr-dau., b. MO Perhaps these are the two females? Census has her widowed......are you certain about the 1910 death date on Thomas? Sure seems no sign of him after 1860. Looks like you may need to get info on those Civil War records :-) I'll send you notes on the others offlist. Kathy She may have gone by a middle name, but Philena is what shows on marriage record. The picture that I have of the family shows it was taken in Severy Kansas. He just might have been in the Army somewhere. There are two Thomas Couch's that show up in Civil War records. Yes I do have access for online images at ancestry. I need to get them placed in 1870 then work up. He died in 1910, don't know where. It is the picture that really throws me as it shows two females. A distant cousin gave me the picture and identified the boy in the picture as my great-grandfather which is possible, but he looks like the father and mother in the picture. I've thought some of you might enjoy this. It's recited to "Twas the Night Before Christmas". Wish I knew the author. Merry Christmas to all and Good Hunting :-) Kathy Census Taker It was the first day of census, and all through the land; The pollster was ready ... a black book in hand. He mounted his horse for a long dusty ride; His book and some quills were tucked close by his side. A long winding ride down a road barely there; Toward the smell of fresh bread wafting up through the air. The woman was tired, with lines on her face; And wisps of brown hair she tucked back into place. She gave him some water ... as they sat at the table; And she answered his questions ... the best she was able. He asked of her children ... Yes, she had quite a few; The oldest was twenty, the youngest not two. She held up a toddler with cheeks round and red; his sister, she whispered, was napping in bed. She noted each person who lived there with pride; And she felt the faint stirrings of the wee one inside. He noted the sex, the color, the age ... The marks from the quill soon filled up the page. At the number of children, she nodded her head; And saw her lips quiver for the three that were dead. The places of birth she "never forgot"; Was it Kansas? or Utah? or Oregon ... or not? They came from Scotland, of that she was clear; But she wasn't quite sure just how long they'd been here. They spoke of employment, of schooling and such; They could read some and write some ... though really not much. When the questions were answered, his job there was done; So he mounted his horse and he rode toward the sun. We can imagine his voice loud and clear; "May God Bless you all for another ten years." Now picture a time warp ... it's now you and me; As we search for the people on our family tree. We squint at the census and scroll down so slow; As we search for that entry from long, long ago. Could they only imagine on that long ago day; That the entries they made would effect us this way? If they knew, would they wonder at the yearning we feel; And the searching that makes them so increasingly real. We can hear if we listen the words they impart; Through their blood in our veins and their voice in our heart. Author Unknown

Joyce, D. Malissa Pritchett shows up on two court documents (1895 and 1913) as one of the heirs of Cox family members. I do not, as yet know who her husband was. This is in Greenville Co. S.C. John Cox was married to Susan (Sue) Couch. They lived here until their deaths, John in 1853 and Sue in 1874. Their descendants, such as I, continue to live in the upstate S.C. area. I'll include a few of the Pritchett's, Couch's and Cox's, I have listed at Marietta Baptist Ch. Cem. The Cox's are my direct family. The Couch's and Pritchett's, I haven't connected yet. Ladies, I don't mean to interrupt, but I have a question. I have a Sue Couch in Greenville Co. SC, who married a John Cox around 1800. One of their granddaughters married into the Pritchett's. Several Pritchett's are buried in the same cemetery with my other families. Do either of you know of any S.C. connections between Couch's, Cox's and Pritchett's? He did not give any documentation for his information but it is about our common ancestor John Couch. "John Couch was born around 1754. He had come to the colony of South Caroline as a British soldier. He was described as five feet seven inches tall, having a fair complexion with a smooth face, freckles, and sandy brown hair. He was of Scotch-Irish heritage. He met and married Samanthia( bron around 1760). He was 19 and she was 13 at time of their marriage. John Settled on a plat of land on the Reedy River in the Ninety-sixth district of South Carolina. ****In 1790, John and Samanthia were living in the 96th District, Spartanburg County, S.C." He also states that by 1810 John and Samanthia had been married 37 years and had 17 children. I would appreciate any comments on this and if jives with any of information that some has.
