    3. Do you have anything else on them that might indicate who they were or a birth date or a spouse for any of them. I don't see anything that looks like migh be them on the 1850 Censu of North Carolina. 3. I would like to inform everyone that we have some money in the General fund for DNA test. We got from now to dec31 to use it. and add more if anyone is interested. If you have a kit that has not been sent back in and is not paid for. please send me a message before you send it in and I would like to run how this work. If you send your money in to general fund this month they will match it When you send your kit in let them know to take $25.00 from matching funds and $76.00 from general fund to pay for it. we can get some money in General fund and then find a person on one of the charts that has not took a dna test to do it and have it paid for. If anyone would like to send in 25 dollars they will match it. but only $25 dollars of Matching fund can be used on one kit. but that is 25% saving while it last.

    1. ANOTHER WEBSITE TO LOOK AT re: Cornish Families Particularly, Couch, Trevanion, Bellamy, Cock(s)
    2. The Lawnranger
    3. Dear All, I apologise for my poor memory in advance and hope that all on this list are actually interested in the subject matter. For those of you who are please visit this link: http://www.couchfamily.info <http://www.couchfamily.info/> Because of my enormous amount of family history and related data, collected over the last six years or so, and my trouble in exchanging it with so many of you I decided to publish it to a web-site for anyone to browse at their leisure. Believe me it still needs a lot of work, but perhaps with all your help, I might actually get some of it sorted out in the end. The information published to the website above is only a fraction of the information I have acquired, particularly on the Couch family and on areas such as Boscastle, Tintagel and surrounding parishes. So if you do have particular queries on a line that is covered by the web information , I might (although I do stress MIGHT) have something else hidden away that I could not use myself but recorded "just in case". I'm a bit of a magpie when it comes to all things Cornish and of relation to me and mine. I'm also very sentimental. Some of you have probably helped me compile this information, particularly Malcolm Couch, to whom I express my grateful thanks. For those of you whom I need to do stuff for like, get a picture or visit a church, please bear with me. Boscastle has been badly affected as you will be aware this year and some roads are not passable, which makes other routes far worse. Added to the fact my car did a vanishing act 6 months ago, I'm a bit dependent on hubby being about so I can get around. I haven't forgotten you, my bag is stuffed with requests. I also have a number of pictures available, not all mine, of certain people and places locally. Anyway, I hope you find something you find of interest for yourself in the website, it certainly isn't perfect, it needs editing and I'm no expert, but hey - share and share alike! Please feel free to spread the word! Best wishes and apologies where appropriate. Sarah Melton, Tintagel, Cornwall mailto:sjmelton@thelawnranger.co.uk PS: Peter and David - there is quite a bit on the Bellamy family and their connections with Tintagel, the Byron mystery and the relationship to the Homans and Sir Sydney Waterlow. If you have the email address for the Tintagel OPC then please pass this email on. PPS: To my immediate family: Roger, Andrew and Jonathan - this should be a bit of fun for you to explore and try and make some sense of! PPPS: To Malcolm - you might finally be able to see what I've been rambling about and I hope you and yours are happily ensconced on the IOM.

    3. Thanks Kathy, I would like to hear more from other Couch Researchers, on this. What is your opinion on This. They have extended it through November. I did not hear anything from any of you the last time I posted it. but we did pick up a couple more that are doing the DNA. If some of you who would like to know how some of the Stray Couch line connect back to other couches. this would be a way to work together and get a test done If we could get a living Male Couch from one of these lines that has not been tested. Even the girls could get involved this way. I see some of the other projects are really getting involved with this DNA and is real excited about it. but Our Couch line seem to have lost interest. Please let me know your thoughts on this even if you are against it. 3. Bill..........this is one from last newsletter from FTDNA that I sent you. Here's what I found on the website: <<For the month of October, Family Tree DNA will match any funds contributed to a General Fund, up to $200.00. The rules for these matching funds are: - up to $25.00 can be used per test kit from the matching funds - matching funds can only be applied to new test kits - matching funds must be used by 12/31/04, when they will expire>> They are extending this offer through November. It appears to me they've set up a means for others to contribute funds to be used, like a type of scholarship fund for new test participants. If they're matching up to $200, it would be excellent to take advantage of. Being the administrator, you'd have to get some advice on how to best use it in recruiting "new" participants.....sorting group needs....biggest questions, etc. Since FTDNA is offering the option for "memorial" contribution, perhaps that would be a good way to divide the funds? If I were to contribute, I'd definitely want to designate for KY participants since we know there is a real shortage of participation there. 3. I'm not sure if this relates or not but here's an excerpt from "The History of Fairfield County, Connecticut, published 1889" It is possible that this phrase was derived from living near one of these roadside springs. "One of the most fertile roots of nomenclature was the simple road-side cross. The latter old English form, is still found lingering in our crutched or crouched Friars. Langland describes a pilgrim as having many a crouche on his cloak, i.e. many a mark of the cross embroidered thereon. A dweller by the way-side crucifixes, would easily get the soubriquet there from and thus we find atte Crouch to be of early occurrence." {Bardsley's English Surnames). A traveler abroad frequently meets with the wayside crucifix, before which the passer-by kneels in silent prayer to the living Christ in Heaven. It was often the case that these crucifixes were raised on the border of a spring of water, so that the passer-by could refresh himself with a cup of cold water. It was from living near one of these roadside crosses that the Crouch, or Couch family derived their names." Hope this helps, Dave (Connecticut Couch line) ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jo Gordon" <JoGordon@webtv.net> To: <COUCH-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, October 22, 2004 12:06 AM Subject: Re: [COUCH] Couch watersops > Could it be these particular Couches were poor and used water instead of > milk to make gravy to "sop" their bread in ?? The General Fund provides an opportunity for Group Administrators to raise sponsorship funds in any currency by the sponsors using the credit card payment feature to handle the currency conversion. Note: I used the name as George Calvin and that is the way it was written in the WILL of his father. This particular line of Couch is most interesting ( maybe because my grandmother was a niece of this George Calvin) but one thread which I find in them is there readiness to be in court and be affilitated with court in some capacity as well as educating their female. They also seem to be close knit in many ways. However, I guess we see what we want to see in our ancestors so this is just my opinion. > Thanks again for the Memory Lane trip. ellen
