We got another good test result back today in group 5. This now give us 3 with 37 marker test, none of us match with the 37 marker and it still give us a 96% chance of finding a common ancestor within 300 years That is well within the time frame to connect to the old thomas and Elizabeth. The perfect match with the 25 marker test only have a 70% chance to find a common ancesto in 300 years. Now we alos have 75 dollars in matching money from FTDNA that has got to be used by 1 jan and they will allow 25 dollars of that for each test. If anyone would like to take they need to let me know and get a test ordered so I can tell them to apply 25 dollars of that matching money toward your kit. I know this is christmas time and money is tight but all we need is the kit ordered and get the money applied to the kit before the first it does not need to be turn in by the first. we also need to see the new comers to the list make a post. We need to keep this lits alive or the new one will not make a post

Below came this morning from Rootsweb Review newsletter and I thought it important to pass along. Kathy * * * New Bill Will Close Records to Genealogists HR10, which was mentioned in the 13 October issue of RootsWeb Review, has passed out of the U.S. House of Representatives and is now part of S.2845. The amendments suggested by David Rencher in his letter to the bill's sponsor, Congressman J. Dennis Hastert, were NOT incorporated into this legislation. Thus, the terms of HR10 will now be considered by the Senate, as part of S.2845. If S.2845 becomes law, as now written, family historians will face some real challenges in attempts to obtain birth records, even on long- deceased individuals. Specifically, what genealogists need to do is suggest to their lawmakers the addition of Sec. 3061(b)(1)(A)(iii) that would read: "who is alive on the date that access to their birth certificate is requested." This addition would clarify that the legislation (soon to be law) applies ONLY to birth certificates of CURRENTLY LIVING PERSONS. We have had one or tow who have sent in their kit without taking advanage of FTDNA matching funds. If anyone has question please contact me. If you are one that is about to sent back a kit. go to this address http://www.familytreedna.com/contribution.html and send in your payment to get the matching fund, then when you send in your kit tell them to use general fund and 25 dollars of the matching fund to pay for it. one person just took advanage of this.and we now have enough for 1/2 of another test. and if we can find somone from one of the lines that have not been tested and even if they can't afford it now we could still get a dna done on it. Eva, Where did you find this information? I know there was also what looks like an Othaniel or Othnel Couch there and Mary Couch. I have been unable to find out who they are. That is the same county that my Sills, Jarrel, Mooney and Taylor families are from. I do know that a John Jarrel/ll married a Mary (Polly) Couch somewhere in Alabama but cannot connect them to my Jarrel family.
