    1. [CoTyIre] man with no name
    2. Folks, during my research odyssey I found what might be a baptism record for 1858 in the clogher parish which had all the details apart from the child's first name. I have a couple of questions on that which some of ye might have some wisdom on. firstly and most obviously why might that be the case. my thinking is leading me to 2 possibilities. a) they hadn't thought of a name at the time or b) the child might not be expected to live. if it is the latter I still cant explain why they would not name him/her. if it is the former is there anyway of confirming what the later appointed name would have been. I think I will ask for a box of patience next Christmas ! 3. Hi Eamonn Its not that unusual in the civil registration indexes but less so in Parish registers, I would say the chances of a child not being given a name at baptism is remote, burials certainly I will add a third possibility to your list The clerk or minister filling in the Parish register would know in advance what the event would be but may not have known the forename(s) so has filled in the details he knew until the event and has omitted to finish the job off Many events were not entered directly in the register but were entered or completed later Off the back of the proverbial fag packet as it were Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 07/07/2013 13:57, [email protected] wrote: > > Folks, > > during my research odyssey I found what might be a baptism record for 1858 in the clogher parish which had all the details apart from the child's first name. > > Eamonn
