Some came through New Orleans. Some of my lot came through Saint John, NB, and 30,000 Irish came through the quarantine station at Grosse Ile, Quebec. My Bavarian ancestors came through Philadelphia in 1752, and passenger records do exist for these early arrivals. My mother attested before she deceased that Philadelphia was a port pre-Ellis Island. Is this correct, or did they enter Ellis and then go southward to Philadelphia?
