    2. Laurie, Depending on what year your ancestors arrived in the US will determine whether or not they passed through Ellis Island. Ellis Island didn't open until 1892. If arriving in NYC prior to this, there was Castle Garden (NYC), but they could also have entered through Philadelphia, Boston, Baltimore... My Mullin and Mellon great, great grandparents came from Tyrone County. I believe they entered the U.S. Through the port of Philadelphia, PA. My mother attested before she deceased that Philadelphia was a port pre-Ellis Island. Is this correct, or did they enter Ellis and then go southward to Philadelphia?
