    3. I have used Facebook extensively for finding living people. For example, cousins that I've lost track of through the years are reconnected through FB. Pictures of their family, etc. It might not help with those in the past, but it is useful in connecting the more recent generations.  Mimi Woods Ringstad On Friday, January 10, 2014 4:29 PM, Bernie Donaghey Gamble <[email protected]> wrote: Hi Nivard, Everyone has their own opinions and of course it is up to them what they want to become involved with.  Personally I like to know these Facebook groups exist and am a member of the Castlederg one.  I have actually been living away from Castlederg for quite a long time albeit not much more than a half hour drive and I thought it wonderful when I found the Castlederg group.  Hope I will be forgiven for saying it here but my worst problem with Facebook is the amount of people who are addicted to it which includes my sister who never phones me with news now.  The Gleneely/Plumbridge site also sounds interesting, only speaking for myself but like most names in Ireland, they often get shortened and we used to call Plumbridge "The Plum" which I hope isn't offensive to the people who live there. I think what I am trying to say to you, Ray and others who don't want to become involved with Facebook is that, if people on the list here know that these Facebook groups exist, and one is in their area of interest then perhaps they can get someone to post a message on their behalf if they don't want to join. I am only speaking from my own personal opinion, and the last thing I would want to do is take anything away from this wonderful Tyrone list.  Regards to all, Bernie.   -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Nivard Ovington Sent: 10 January 2014 15:28 To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [CoTyIre] Castlederg Genealogy Group I am entirely with Ray on this subject Why do people bother with facebook, which may be flavour of the month for now but not a great resource for research, particularly long term The list posts are archived for future researchers to gain from and make contact with previous posters with similar interests And a whole lot safer to use Give me the lists and boards any day Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 10/01/2014 13:46, ray15 wrote: > Thank you for the notification, Mervyn; and to Clare for giving them a boost. > > Sadly, though, I will have to stay ignorant of everything about your group, as I refuse to join Facebook; and having tried your link, can only read there upon becoming a member. > > It's a pity, but something that I have to accept as long as I choose to stick by my preference for privacy. > > Wishing you all the best with it nevertheless. > Ray in Oz ------------- ------------- Our community web-site: http://cotyroneireland.com/ ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
